How to Install T&B Liquidtight Connectors for Flexible Metallic Conduit
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for properly installing T&B liquidtight connectors with flexible metallic conduit, ensuring high performance and reliability in accordance with electrical codes.
Estimated time: 30m
Tools needed:
Hacksaw or power band saw, Metal jig (for conduit cutting), Smooth jaw wrench, Torque wrench, Safety glasses, Work gloves
Supplies needed:
T&B liquidtight connector, Liquidtight flexible metallic conduit, Locknuts (if not included or for knockout applications), Sealing gaskets (for knockout applications), PVC cement (optional)
- Review Safety Information and Disconnect Power
Before beginning installation, read and understand all instructions and safety information. Disconnect all power to the electrical system to prevent risk of shock. Ensure the installation is performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes. Wear appropriate hand and eye protection.
- Prepare the Flexible Conduit
Cut the flexible metallic conduit with a clean, square end cut. For best results, use a metal jig, a sharp hacksaw with 32 teeth per inch, or a power band saw with 24-32 teeth per inch at no more than 400 feet per minute. Do not use an abrasive wheel for cutting.
- Assemble the Liquidtight Connector Components
For 5000, 7000, 9000 series, and PVC coated 3300 series connectors, first slide the gland nut onto the conduit. Next, slide the nylon sealing ring onto the conduit. Finally, thread the Safe Edge™ Cone into the connector body. For PVC coated connectors, tighten with a smooth jaw wrench; if gouging occurs exposing metal, apply PVC cement.
- Install Connector to Electrical Box or Enclosure
Insert the connector body through the knockout hole in the electrical box or enclosure. For knockout applications, use T&B® 140 series locknuts and 5260 series sealing gaskets (purchase separately). Secure the connector by tightening the locknut onto the connector body from inside the box. Refer to the torque table for recommended tightening torque values (e.g., 200 lb-in for 3/8" fitting, up to 1600 lb-in for 2-4" fittings) to ensure a liquidtight seal.
