How to Install 373 J2, J3, J4 Loadbreak Junctions

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the safe installation and initial setup of Elastimold 373 J2, J3, J4 two-, three-, and four-point loadbreak junctions on various surfaces.

Estimated time: 1h

Tools needed:

Wrench, Marking tool, Cleaning cloth, Wire strippers

Supplies needed:

Mounting bolts (user supplied, to fit 17/32 inch or 13mm diameter holes), Grounding wire (No. 10 Solid to No. 1 Stranded), Lubricant (supplied with junction), HV insulated cap(s) (Elastimold 375DR or equivalent, if interfaces are unused)

  1. Perform Initial Safety Checks and Preparation

DANGER: Ensure all apparatus is de-energized during installation. This product must be installed only by competent personnel trained in high voltage electrical equipment safety practices. Inspect the package contents for completeness and damage. Check all components for proper fit with cables and mating products. Have all required tools at hand and maintain cleanliness throughout the procedure.

  2. Prepare and Mark Mounting Bracket Locations

Loosely attach the universal mounting brackets to the junction back plate. Place the assembled unit against the desired mounting surface (flat or curved). Adjust the brackets for proper alignment and mark their exact locations on the wall or surface.

  3. Mount Brackets to Wall

Detach the universal mounting brackets from the junction back plate. Securely mount the brackets to the wall or surface according to the marks made in Step 2. Ensure the brackets are firmly attached and can support the junction. Note that one or both brackets can be inverted to adjust bolt center distances.

  4. Attach Junction Assembly to Mounted Brackets

With the universal mounting brackets securely fastened to the wall, fasten the junction back plate (with the junction attached) to the mounted brackets. Verify that the parking stands are in the upright position before securing.

  5. Adjust and Secure Mounting Angle

Adjust the mounting angle of the junction to the desired position (0 to 90 degrees above or below horizontal in 15-degree increments). Once the desired angle is set, tighten all bolts securely to prevent any movement during operation.

  6. Ground the Back Plate

Ground the back plate of the junction. A grounding lug is provided for this purpose. Connect a grounding wire of appropriate size (No. 10 Solid to No. 1 Stranded) to this lug and ensure a secure ground connection.

  7. Prepare and Install Mating Products

Thoroughly wipe the bushing interface clean of any contaminants. Lubricate the bushing interface with the supplied lubricant. Install the mating products (e.g., elbow connectors) to the bushing insert, following the specific instructions provided with those mating products.

  8. Cap Unused Operating Interfaces

WARNING: If all operating interfaces are not utilized, an Elastimold 375DR insulated cap (or equivalent) MUST be installed on the unused interface(s) BEFORE energization. DO NOT use the protective shipping covers for this function, as they are not insulated and are only intended to keep surfaces clean during handling and installation.
