How to Install 373J4-5 Loadbreak Junctions
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the safe installation and initial setup of 373J4-5 Four-Point Loadbreak Junctions, including mounting, grounding, and preparing bushings for operation.
Estimated time: 30m
Tools needed:
Drill, Wrench or Screwdriver
Supplies needed:
373J4-5 Loadbreak Junction with Holdown Brackets and Hardware, Shield Plate, Mounting Hardware (fasteners), Grounding lug (if mounting surface is insulating, not provided), Ground wire (14AWG minimum, if mounting surface is insulating), Silicone lubricant, Elastimold 370DR Insulated Caps (for unused 35kV class bushings, if applicable)
- Perform Pre-Installation Checks and Safety
DANGER: All apparatus must be de-energized during installation or removal of parts. Before starting, inspect all parts for damage, proper rating, and compatibility with mating parts. Verify package contents are complete and undamaged. Remove any protective shipping covers and replace them with appropriate HV insulated caps or connectors before proceeding with installation or energization.
- Prepare Mounting Surface
Determine the desired location for the junction assembly. Using the provided diagrams for the J4 model, drill the necessary mounting holes into the mounting surface. Ensure the holes are accurately placed according to the specified dimensions (e.g., 0.375 Dia. Hole, 2.500 spacing).
- Mount and Ground the Junction Assembly
Assemble the loadbreak junction, shield plate, and hold down brackets using the supplied fasteners. Attach the assembled unit to the prepared flat surface. Securely tighten all fasteners to prevent any movement during operation. CAUTION: The shield plate, hold down brackets, and black conductive rubber shield must be grounded. If the mounting surface is conductive and grounded, no additional ground is necessary. For insulating mounting surfaces, attach a grounding lug (not provided) with one of the mounting bolts and connect a minimum 14AWG ground wire from the lug to a ground bus.
- Finalize Bushing Preparation
Remove any protective caps from the bushings and thoroughly clean them. Apply silicone lubricant (DO NOT SUBSTITUTE) to the bushings before assembling with an Elastimold loadbreak connector. If any bushings are not utilized, install Elastimold 370DR insulated caps (for 35kV class) on the unused bushings before energization. Do not use the protective shipping caps for this function as they are not insulated.
