How to Install and Operate the 372SOP Stand-Off Plug
This guide provides instructions for safely installing and operating the 372SOP Stand-Off Plug, designed to isolate and dead-end 35kV class loadbreak elbow connectors. It covers grounding, mounting, and connecting an elbow.
Estimated time: 30m
Tools needed:
Hotstick
Supplies needed:
372SOP Stand-Off Plug, Mounting hardware, Elastimold approved lubricant, Electrostatic grounding lead, Protective cap, Elastimold 35kV class loadbreak elbow connector, Parking stand
- Ensure Safety and Prepare Grounding
DANGER: Ensure all apparatus is de-energized before beginning installation. Connect the electrostatic grounding lead to the grounding lug on the 372SOP Stand-Off Plug. Connect the opposite end of the grounding lead to a reliable ground, leaving sufficient slack for hotstick operation. Remove the protective cap from the stand-off plug interface, clean it, and apply an Elastimold approved lubricant. DO NOT SUBSTITUTE other lubricants. Always replace the protective cap when the stand-off plug is not in use.
- Position Stand-Off Plug
Rotate the eyebolt counterclockwise until the nut is firmly in contact with the bracket. Attach a hotstick firmly to the eyebolt. Using the hotstick, carefully slide the 372SOP Stand-Off Plug into the designated parking stand.
- Secure Stand-Off Plug
Back off the hotstick. Rotate the eyebolt clockwise until the nut on the opposite end snugly wedges the stand-off plug to the underside of the parking stand. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN THE BOLT, as this may cause damage.
- Connect Loadbreak Elbow (Optional)
CAUTION: Verify that the ground lead is securely connected between the stand-off plug lug and ground BEFORE assembling the elbow. Do not attempt to attach the ground lead after the elbow is assembled. If connecting an elbow, remove the ELASTIMOLD loadbreak elbow connector from its bushing (if applicable) following its specific operating instructions. Insert the male contact of the loadbreak elbow into the stand-off plug and push it home with a fast, firm, straight motion. Ensure it is firmly in place and the locking ring is seated. To return the elbow to a bushing, reverse this sequence following its LOADMAKE instructions.
- Verify Elbow Assembly
Visually inspect the assembled elbow. Complete assembly is indicated when no portion of the yellow band is visible when viewed from the side.
