How to Install Elastimold 274J3 Loadbreak Junctions

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the universal mounting and initial setup of Elastimold 274J2, 274J3, and 274J4 two-, three-, and four-point loadbreak junctions on flat or curved surfaces, including wiring and connection procedures.

Estimated time: 1h

Tools needed:

Wrench or socket set, Drill, Wire strippers, Marking tool, Measuring tape

Supplies needed:

Mounting bolts/screws (user supplied, 17/32 inch or 13mm diameter), Lubricant (supplied with junction), Grounding wire (user supplied, No. 10 Solid to No. 1 Stranded), Elastimold 273DR Insulated Cap(s) (for unused interfaces), Mating 25kV class loadbreak connectors or insulated caps

  1. De-energize Apparatus and Inspect Components

DANGER: Before beginning installation, ensure all apparatus is de-energized. Inspect the contents of the package for completeness and damage. Verify all components fit properly with the cable and/or mating products.

  2. Prepare Mounting Brackets and Mark Location

Loosely attach the universal mounting brackets to the junction back plate. Position the assembled unit against the desired flat or curved wall surface, adjust the brackets for proper alignment, and mark their exact location on the wall.

  3. Mount Brackets to Wall

Detach the universal mounting brackets from the junction back plate. Securely mount the brackets to the wall using user-supplied bolts (17/32 inch or 13mm diameter) according to the marks made in the previous step. Ensure the brackets are firmly attached.

  4. Fasten Junction to Brackets

With the universal mounting brackets securely installed on the wall, fasten the junction back plate (with the junction attached) to the mounted brackets. Ensure that the parking stands are in the upright position.

  5. Adjust Mounting Angle and Tighten Bolts

Adjust the junction's mounting angle to the desired position (0° to 90° above or below horizontal in 15° increments). Once the angle is set, securely tighten all bolts to prevent any movement during operation.

  6. Ground the Back Plate

Connect a grounding wire (user-supplied, No. 10 Solid to No. 1 Stranded) to the provided grounding lug on the back plate. Ensure a secure and proper ground connection.

  7. Clean, Lubricate, and Install Mating Products

Thoroughly wipe the bushing interface clean of any contaminants. Apply the supplied lubricant to the bushing interface. Install the mating loadbreak connectors or insulated caps to the bushing inserts, following their specific installation instructions.

  8. Verify Seating and Install Insulated Caps on Unused Interfaces

Confirm proper seating of installed connectors or caps by ensuring no portion of the yellow band is visible when viewed from the side. WARNING: If any operating interfaces remain unused, install an Elastimold 273DR Insulated Cap on each unused interface before energizing the circuit. Do not use shipping covers for this purpose as they are not insulated.
