How to Install the 274J2 Loadbreak Junction
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for mounting, wiring, and setting up the 274J2, 274J3, or 274J4 Two-, Three-, or Four-Point Loadbreak Junctions on flat or curved surfaces.
Estimated time: 1h
Tools needed:
Screwdriver, Wire strippers, Marking tool
Supplies needed:
Mounting bolts (17/32 inch or 13mm diameter), Grounding wire (No. 10 Solid to No. 1 Stranded), Elastimold 273DR Insulated Cap(s) (if needed), Mating products (e.g., elbow connectors)
- Ensure Apparatus is De-energized
Before beginning any installation or removal of parts, ensure that all apparatus is completely de-energized. Failure to follow this critical safety instruction can result in serious or fatal injury.
- Prepare Mounting Brackets and Mark Location
Loosely attach the universal mounting brackets to the junction back plate. Position the assembled junction against the desired mounting surface (flat or curved), adjust the brackets for proper alignment, and mark their exact location on the wall.
- Mount Brackets to Wall
Detach the universal mounting brackets from the junction back plate. Securely mount the brackets to the wall using user-supplied bolts (17/32 inch or 13mm diameter), aligning them with the marks made in Step 2. Ensure the brackets are firmly attached.
- Attach Junction to Brackets
With the universal mounting brackets securely installed, fasten the junction back plate (with the junction attached) to the mounting brackets. Verify that the parking stands are in the upright position before securing.
- Adjust Mounting Angle
Adjust the junction's mounting angle to the desired position, which can be from 0 to 90 degrees above or below the horizontal in 15-degree increments.
- Secure All Bolts
Tighten all bolts securely on the mounting brackets and the junction back plate to prevent any movement during operation.
- Ground the Back Plate
Connect a grounding wire (No. 10 Solid to No. 1 Stranded) to the provided grounding lug on the back plate to ensure proper grounding of the apparatus.
- Clean, Lubricate, and Install Mating Products
Thoroughly wipe the bushing interface clean of any contaminants. Apply the supplied lubricant to the interface. Install the mating products (e.g., elbow connectors) to the bushing insert, following their specific installation instructions.
- Verify Seating Indication and Install Caps
Confirm proper seating of insulated caps or elbow connectors by ensuring that no portion of the yellow band is visible when viewed from the side. If any operating interfaces are not utilized, install an Elastimold 273DR insulated cap on each unused interface before energizing the circuit. Do not use protective shipping covers for this purpose as they are not insulated.
