How to Install the 274J4 Four-Point Loadbreak Junction
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the physical installation and initial setup of the 274J4 Four-Point Loadbreak Junction, designed for universal mounting on flat or curved surfaces with an adjustable angle. Ensure all apparatus are de-energized before beginning installation.
Estimated time: 45m
Tools needed:
Wrench, Screwdriver, Wire strippers
Supplies needed:
Mounting bolts (user-supplied, 13mm diameter), Grounding wire (No. 10 Solid to No. 1 Stranded), Lubricant (supplied with junction), Elastimold 273DR Insulated Cap (if needed for unused interfaces), Mating loadbreak connectors or caps
- Attach mounting brackets and mark locations
Loosely attach the universal mounting brackets to the junction back plate. Position the assembly against the desired mounting surface (wall), adjust for proper alignment, and mark the exact locations for drilling or securing the brackets.
- Mount the universal brackets to the wall
Detach the universal mounting brackets from the junction back plate. Securely mount the brackets to the wall using user-supplied bolts (13mm diameter) according to the marks made in Step 1. Ensure the brackets are firmly attached.
- Fasten the junction back plate to the mounted brackets
With the universal mounting brackets securely installed, fasten the junction back plate (with the junction attached) to the mounting brackets. Ensure that the parking stands are in the upright position during this step.
- Adjust the junction's mounting angle
Adjust the mounting angle of the junction to the desired position. The angle is adjustable from 0 to 90 degrees above or below the horizontal in 15-degree increments.
- Securely tighten all mounting bolts
Once the junction is in the desired position and angle, securely tighten all bolts on the mounting brackets and back plate to prevent any movement during operation.
- Ground the junction back plate
Connect a grounding wire (No. 10 Solid to No. 1 Stranded) to the provided grounding lug on the back plate. Ensure a secure and proper ground connection is established.
- Clean, lubricate, and install mating products
Thoroughly wipe the bushing interfaces clean of any contaminants. Apply the supplied lubricant to the interfaces. Install the mating loadbreak connectors or insulated caps to the bushing inserts, following their respective installation instructions.
- Verify seating and cap unused interfaces
Confirm complete assembly of any installed insulated cap or elbow by ensuring no portion of the yellow band is visible when viewed from the side. WARNING: If all operating interfaces are not utilized, an Elastimold 273DR insulated cap MUST be installed on any unused interface(s) before energization. Do NOT use protective shipping covers for this purpose.
