How to Install the 274J3-5 Loadbreak Junction
Instructions for installing and connecting the 274J3-5 two, three, or four-point loadbreak junctions.
Estimated time: 45m
Tools needed:
Drill, Wrench
Supplies needed:
Mounting hardware, Grounding lug (if mounting surface is not conductive), Ground wire (14AWG minimum), Lubricant, Mating products (elbows or caps), Round yellow marker
- Determine mounting location and drill holes
Select the desired location for the junction assembly. Drill holes in the mounting surface according to the dimensions provided in the diagram for J2, J3, or J4 configurations.
- Assemble and mount the junction
Assemble the loadbreak junction, shield plate, and hold down brackets using the supplied fasteners. Attach the assembly to the flat mounting surface and securely tighten all fasteners to prevent movement during operation. Ensure the shield plate, hold down brackets, and conductive rubber shield are grounded. If the mounting surface is not conductive or grounded, attach a grounding lug (not provided) with one of the mounting bolts and connect a ground wire (14AWG minimum) to the lug and a ground bus.
- Prepare and connect mating products
Thoroughly clean the bushing interface of any contaminants and lubricate it with the supplied lubricant. Install the mating products (insulated caps or elbow connectors) to the bushing insert, following the instructions provided with those mating products. Apply the provided round yellow marker to the mounting surface where it will be visible to the operator.
- Verify seating of connected products
Confirm that the insulated cap or elbow connector is fully seated. This is indicated when no portion of the yellow band is visible when viewed from the side.
