How to Install Elastimold 274J2, 274J3, and 274J4 Loadbreak Junctions
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the safe and proper installation of Elastimold 274J2, 274J3, and 274J4 Two-, Three-, and Four-Point Loadbreak Junctions. WARNING: Ensure all apparatus is de-energized and only competent personnel trained in high voltage electrical equipment install this product.
Estimated time: 1h
Tools needed:
Wrench, Wire strippers, Measuring tape, Marking tool
Supplies needed:
Mounting bolts (user supplied, 17/32 inch or 13mm diameter), Grounding wire (No. 10 Solid to No. 1 Stranded), Lubricant (supplied with product), Elastimold 273DR Insulated Cap(s) (for unused interfaces)
- Prepare for Mounting
Loosely attach the universal mounting brackets to the junction back plate. Position the assembled unit against the desired mounting surface (flat or curved), adjust the brackets for proper alignment, and mark the bracket locations on the wall.
- Mount the Brackets
Detach the universal mounting brackets from the junction back plate. Securely mount the brackets to the wall using user-supplied bolts, aligning them with the marks made in Step 1. Ensure the brackets are firmly attached and consider inverting one or both brackets if different bolt center distances are required.
- Fasten the Junction Assembly
With the universal mounting brackets securely in place, attach the junction back plate (with the loadbreak junction already attached) to the mounted brackets. Ensure that the parking stands are in the upright position before fastening.
- Adjust Mounting Angle
Adjust the mounting angle of the junction to the desired position, which can be set from 0° through 90° above or below the horizontal in 15° increments.
- Secure All Fasteners
Thoroughly tighten all bolts and fasteners to ensure the junction assembly is rigid and will not move during operation.
- Ground the Back Plate
Connect a suitable grounding wire (No. 10 Solid to No. 1 Stranded) to the provided grounding lug on the back plate. Ensure a secure and proper ground connection.
- Prepare and Connect Mating Products
Thoroughly clean the bushing interface of any contaminants. Apply the supplied lubricant to the interface. Install the mating products (e.g., insulated caps or elbow connectors) to the bushing insert, following their specific installation instructions.
- Verify Seating and Cap Unused Interfaces
Confirm proper seating of insulated caps or elbow connectors by ensuring no portion of the yellow band is visible from the side. If any operating interfaces remain unused, install an Elastimold 273DR insulated cap on each unused interface before energizing the circuit. Do NOT use shipping covers for this function.
