How to Install Elastimold 261LRJS/262LRJS Loadbreak Elbow Connectors
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the safe and proper installation of Elastimold 261LRJS and 262LRJS Loadbreak Elbow Connectors, including cable preparation, assembly, and connection to a bushing.

Lubricant (Do Not Substitute), Mastic sealing strips, Vinyl tape, No. 14 AWG / 2.5mm copper wire, Grounding connector
- Perform Pre-Installation Checks and Safety Review
Ensure all apparatus is de-energized before starting installation. Inspect all package contents and components for completeness, damage, and compatibility with the cable and mating products. Verify the probe threads freely into the compression lug; if resistance occurs, replace damaged components. Read all instructions thoroughly and gather all required tools. If installing a 262LRJS, lubricate and install the test point cap if not already present.
- Train and Prepare Cable Length
Train the cable to ensure sufficient slack for ease of operation. Pull extra cable 24-26 inches beyond the bushing centerline and mark the centerline. Remove the outer jacket 7-3/4 to 8 inches back from the tape mark. Unwrap the neutral wires back past the bushing centerline. Cut the excess cable squarely at the bushing centerline.
- Prepare Cable End Insulation and Neutral Wires
Wrap one mastic strip, stretching slightly, around the cable jacket. Bend all neutral wires straight back over the mastic and along the cable, pressing them into the mastic. Wrap a second mastic strip completely around the outer jacket, overlapping the imbedded neutral wires. Use a third mastic strip if needed to build up the outer diameter, then cover all mastic with vinyl tape. Remove the insulation shield and insulation from the cable end, cutting squarely without nicking the conductor. Bevel the insulation end 1/8 inch maximum. Thoroughly clean the insulation to remove all traces of conductive residue.
- Install Compression Lug onto Conductor
Wire brush bare aluminum conductors immediately after cleaning. Install the compression lug onto the conductor, rotating it to spread inhibitor. Position the compression lug so its contact threaded hole aligns with the bushing bore. Crimp the lug starting at the crimp line mark, rotating 180 degrees for each successive crimp. Carefully wipe any excessive inhibitor from the outside of the lug and cable.
- Assemble Elbow Housing onto Cable
Lubricate the cable insulation and the inside of the elbow housing with the supplied lubricant; do not substitute. Slide the elbow connector onto the cable with a back and forth twisting motion. Wipe off all excess lubricant. Align the elbow with the compression lug's threaded hole. Thread the probe into the lug by hand, ensuring it turns freely for approximately four turns before becoming snug. Tighten the probe with the supplied wrench until the wrench bends.
- Connect Concentric Neutral Wires
Insert one end of a separate No. 14 AWG (2.5mm) copper wire or equivalent through the grounding eye on the elbow and twist tightly, taking care not to damage the eye. Pull the hood over the concentric neutral seal area on the cable by pulling the tabs or rolling the seal down. Twist all neutral wires together and connect them to ground using an appropriate connector, ensuring adequate slack for elbow operation.
- Connect Elbow to Bushing Plug
Lubricate the receptacle portion of the elbow connector and the mating bushing with the supplied lubricant. IMPORTANT: ONLY LUBRICATE IF THE TRANSFORMER AND ELBOW ARE KNOWN TO BE DE-ENERGIZED. Operate the connection using a full insulated hotstick type live-line tool; do not operate by hand.
