How to Install the ELASTIMOLD 160DRG/167DRG Insulated Cap with Ground Lead
This guide provides instructions for the safe installation of the ELASTIMOLD 160DRG and 167DRG insulated caps, designed for insulating, shielding, and watersealing 15kV class loadbreak bushing interfaces.

Eight foot long, fully insulated hotstick
Supplies needed:
ELASTIMOLD 160DRG/167DRG Insulated Cap with Ground Lead, ELASTIMOLD approved lubricant
- Prepare and Ensure Safety
Before beginning, ensure all apparatus is de-energized. Inspect the contents of the package to confirm they are complete and undamaged. Verify all components fit properly with the cable and/or mating products. Ensure you have all required tools and maintain cleanliness throughout the procedure. This product should only be installed by competent personnel trained in good safety practices involving high voltage electrical equipment.
- Connect Grounding Wire
Connect the free end of the electrostatic grounding wire to the system ground. Leave enough slack to allow for hot-stick operation of the insulated cap. CAUTION: Train the electrostatic grounding wire so it does not contact the bushing interface during operation. WARNING: If the ground lead disconnects during operation, do not attempt to reattach without first pulling the insulated cap off the bushing with the hotstick.
- Lubricate Insulated Cap
Remove the protective cover from the insulated cap. Lubricate the cap’s internal mating surface using only the supplied lubricant or ELASTIMOLD approved lubricants. Do not substitute other lubricants, as they may be harmful to this product and its mating products. Keep the internal mating surface free from dirt and grime. Always replace the protective cover when the cap is not in use.
- Mate Cap to Bushing
Firmly attach a hotstick to the insulated cap's pulling eye. Insert the male contact of the insulated cap into the loadbreak bushing. Push the cap home with a fast, firm, straight motion, ensuring it is fully mated and the locking ring is seated. Detach the hotstick from the insulated cap.
