How to Install the 151GP Deadbreak Grounding Plug
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for safely installing and securing the 151GP Deadbreak Grounding Plug with a deadbreak elbow connector. It is crucial that all associated apparatus are de-energized before beginning installation.

Hotstick, Suitable sensing device for capacitive test points
Supplies needed:
151GP Deadbreak Grounding Plug, Stainless steel mounting hardware, Hold-down Bail Assembly, Elastimold approved lubricant, Silicone grease
- Prepare the Grounding Plug
Connect the flexible lead of the grounding plug to system ground, ensuring enough slack to operate with a hotstick. Remove the protective shipping cap from the grounding plug. Clean and lubricate the mating interface of the grounding plug using only the supplied or ELASTIMOLD approved lubricant. Do not substitute other lubricants.
- Prepare for Elbow Connection
Attach a hotstick to the eye of the grounding plug carriage assembly. Slide the carriage assembly into the parking stand. Push the bail out of the way so it will not interfere with the placement of the deadbreak elbow connector.
- Perform Voltage Test on Deadbreak Elbow
Remove the test point cap from the deadbreak elbow connector using a hotstick, peeling it off at an angle. WARNING: The voltage test point is a capacitance device; do not use conventional voltage measuring equipment. Use a suitable sensing device, made for use with separable connectors manufactured with capacitive test points, to determine if the cable is energized. Treat the elbow as energized until the 'no voltage' test point indication is confirmed by other means. After testing, clean and lubricate the inside surface of the cap with silicone grease and replace it on the test point.
- Connect Deadbreak Elbow to Grounding Plug
WARNING: If the voltage test indicates the connector is energized, DO NOT remove it. Follow the applicable instructions to make a voltage test before removing the deadbreak elbow connector from the apparatus bushing. Remove the elbow connector from the apparatus bushing and place it onto the grounding plug.
- Secure the Deadbreak Elbow
The bail must be used to secure the deadbreak elbow. Position the bail eyebolt directly over the bail locater on the elbow. Tighten down on the bail locater by turning the eyebolt with the hotstick in a clockwise direction.
