This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing Thomas & Betts jacketed metal clad cable connectors, specifically those utilizing the Sabre Tooth grounding sleeve for Teck or jacketed MC type cables.
Estimated time: 20m
Tools needed:
Cable cutter, Wire strippers, Torque wrench
Supplies needed:
Jacketed Metal Clad Cable Connector (e.g., 10474), Teck or jacketed MC type cable
- De-energize Circuits
Before starting installation or maintenance, verify that all circuits are de-energized to prevent electrical shock.
- Prepare the Cable
Ring-cut the cable squarely and remove the outer jacket and armor to the desired length. Ensure the outer jacket is flush with the end of the armor. CAUTION: Do not nick or cut the conductor insulation.
- Pre-assemble Connector Components
Slide the gland nut, retainer ring, and neoprene bushing over the prepared cable in that specific order.
- Install Sabre Tooth Grounding Sleeve
Insert the point of the Sabre Tooth grounding sleeve fully over the cable armor and beneath the outer jacket.
- Seat Neoprene Bushing
Slide the neoprene bushing forward to seat it properly in the bevel on the grounding sleeve.
- Attach Connector Body and Tighten Gland Nut
Place the main connector body over the grounding sleeve. Then, thread the gland nut onto the connector body and tighten it to the appropriate torque for your hub size. Refer to the provided torque table (e.g., 200 in.-lbs for 1/2 inch hub, up to 1600 in.-lbs for 2-4 inch hubs).
