Overview

The ABB 10550 watertight malleable iron fitting is a heavy-duty conduit fitting designed for secure cable entry in industrial electrical installations. Constructed from durable malleable iron with tapered NPT threads, this fitting ensures a robust, leak-proof connection for conduit systems exposed to moisture or harsh environments. The 1-1/4" hub thread size provides compatibility with standard 1-1/4" conduit, while the cable jacket outside diameter range of 1.375" to 1.625" accommodates a variety of cable types, including liquidtight and armored cables. The fitting features a safe-edge ground cone and double bevel sealing ring for enhanced watertight performance, maintaining environmental protection in applications where moisture ingress is a critical concern. Key specifications include a throat diameter of 1.400" for smooth cable passage and a nominal dimension set (A: 20.62", B: 42.86", C: 61.44") that ensures proper fitment in standard installations. The malleable iron construction delivers superior impact resistance and durability, making it suitable for environments subject to physical stress or vibration. This fitting is engineered for use in hazardous locations, meeting CEC Rule 18-152 (6) Class I, Zone 2; CEC Rule J18-152 (6) Class I, Division 2; CEC Rule 18-202 (4) Class II, Division 1; Ideal for outdoor enclosures, underground installations, and industrial facilities, the ABB 10550 fitting simplifies cable management while maintaining the integrity of electrical systems. Its precision-engineered dimensions and robust materials reduce installation time and maintenance costs by providing a secure, long-lasting connection that resists corrosion and environmental degradation.

How to Install the 10550 Jacketed Metal Clad Cable Connector

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing the 10550 Jacketed Metal Clad Cable Connector, ensuring proper cable preparation and secure connection using the Sabre Tooth™ grounding sleeve method.

Estimated time: 30m

Tools needed:

Cable cutter, Wrench

Supplies needed:

10550 Jacketed Metal Clad Cable Connector, Teck or jacketed MC type cable

  1. De-energize Circuits and Prepare Cable

CAUTION: RISK OF ELECTRICAL SHOCK. Before beginning installation or maintenance, verify that all circuits are de-energized. Ring-cut the Teck or jacketed MC cable squarely and remove the outer jacket and armor to the desired length. Ensure the outer jacket is flush with the end of the armor. Exercise extreme caution not to nick or cut the conductor insulation during this process.

  2. Slide Connector Components onto Cable

Slide the gland nut, retainer ring, and neoprene bushing, in that order, over the prepared cable. Ensure they are oriented correctly for subsequent assembly.

  3. Install Sabre Tooth™ Grounding Sleeve

Insert the pointed end of the Sabre Tooth™ grounding sleeve fully over the cable armor and carefully position it beneath the outer jacket. Ensure it is securely seated.

  4. Seat Neoprene Bushing

Slide the neoprene bushing along the cable until it firmly seats into the bevel on the Sabre Tooth™ grounding sleeve, creating a seal.

  5. Attach Connector Body

Place the main connector body over the installed Sabre Tooth™ grounding sleeve. Ensure the body aligns properly with the sleeve and cable.

  6. Tighten Gland Nut

Thread the gland nut onto the connector body. Using a wrench, tighten the gland nut to the appropriate torque value for your specific hub size. Refer to the provided torque table (e.g., 1/2 inch hub: 200 in-lbs, 3/4 inch hub: 300 in-lbs, 1 inch hub: 700 in-lbs, 1-1/4 inch hub: 1000 in-lbs, 1-1/2 inch hub: 1200 in-lbs, 2-4 inch hub: 1600 in-lbs).
