5 Inch Aluminum, Hub Connector with Thermoplastic Insulating Throat, Sealing Ring Nitrile (BUNA-N) for Use with Rigid/IMC ConduitHow to Install the 10478 Jacketed Metal Clad Cable Connector (Set Screw Type)
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing the Thomas & Betts Jacketed Metal Clad Cable Connector (Set Screw Type) with a protective grounding sleeve. It covers cable preparation, connector assembly, and tightening procedures for Teck or jacketed MC type cables.
Estimated time: 15m
Tools needed:
Wire strippers, Screwdriver, Torque wrench
Supplies needed:
Jacketed Metal Clad Cable, 10478 Cable Connector, Protective Grounding Sleeve
- De-energize Circuits
Before beginning any installation or maintenance, verify that all circuits are completely de-energized to prevent the risk of electrical shock. This is a critical safety precaution.
- Prepare the Cable Jacketing
Strip off the outer cable jacketing to a length equivalent to that of the Protective Grounding Sleeve. Exercise extreme caution to avoid nicking or cutting the insulation of the conductors during this process.
- Install Protective Grounding Sleeve
Carefully slip the Protective Grounding Sleeve over the exposed cable armor until it is fully seated.
- Insert Cable into Connector
Push the prepared cable into the connector body as far as it will go, ensuring it reaches the internal armor stop.
- Tighten Set-Screws
Tighten the set-screws to a torque of 35 in.-lbs. Alternatively, tighten them until the head of each set-screw is flush with the body of the connector.
- Tighten Gland Nut
Tighten the gland nut securely. For hub sizes 2-4 inches (which includes the 10478 connector), the recommended torque is 1600 in.-lbs. Always refer to the provided torque table for precise specifications based on the connector's hub size.
