Overview

The nVent Type 4 Continuous Hinge Enclosure with Clamps (SKU: A48H36CLP) is a robust, single-door industrial enclosure designed for demanding indoor and outdoor environments where protection against corrosion, dust, water, and mechanical impact is critical. Engineered by nVent—an industry leader in thermal management and electrical protection solutions—this enclosure combines durability, security, and ease of access in a compact 48x36x10 inch footprint. The continuous hinge design ensures smooth, long-lasting operation, while the three-sided clamp system delivers a secure seal that meets NEMA Type 4 and IP66 standards, making it ideal for harsh industrial applications. This enclosure is constructed from high-quality mild steel and finished with a gray polyester powder coating applied both inside and out. This dual-coat finish provides superior corrosion resistance, UV stability, and resistance to chemical exposure, ensuring reliable performance in outdoor installations exposed to rain, humidity, salt spray, or industrial pollutants. The continuous hinge eliminates the need for multiple hinges, reducing maintenance and improving door alignment over time. The clamps on three sides—top, bottom, and one vertical edge—create a tight seal when closed, preventing ingress of contaminants and maintaining internal environmental conditions. Designed for professionals who require both protection and accessibility, the nVent A48H36CLP is widely used across a range of industries, including manufacturing, utilities, telecommunications, transportation, and water/wastewater treatment. Common applications include housing electrical controls, automation systems, PLCs, motor starters, and communication equipment in both indoor control rooms and outdoor substations or field sites. Its NEMA Type 4 rating ensures it can withstand hose-directed water and windblown dust, making it suitable for coastal installations, food processing plants, chemical facilities, and outdoor enclosures near cooling towers or washdown areas. Installation is straightforward thanks to the pre-drilled mounting holes and reinforced corners that support heavy components. The enclosure’s depth of 10 inches provides ample space for wiring, components, and thermal management accessories such as heaters or fans. nVent’s reputation for engineering excellence and compliance with international standards (including UL and CSA) ensures that this enclosure meets rigorous safety and performance requirements. Whether upgrading existing infrastructure or designing new systems, engineers and technicians trust nVent enclosures to deliver long-term reliability and protection. Choose the nVent A48H36CLP Continuous Hinge Enclosure for a secure, corrosion-resistant housing solution that combines strength, accessibility, and compliance in a single, field-proven package. Backed by nVent’s global support network and decades of experience in industrial protection, this enclosure is a smart investment for protecting critical assets in any environment.

How to Install the A48H36CLP Enclosure

Instructions for mounting and adjusting the A48H36CLP enclosure, including door and panel installation.

Estimated time: 1h

Tools needed:

Screwdriver, Punch, Vibrating hammer (electric or air powered)

Supplies needed:

Fasteners, Metal shims, Hinge pin

  1. Prepare for Mounting

Identify whether the enclosure is wall-mounted or floor-mounted. Wall-mounted enclosures have internal mounting means or external feet. Floor-mounted enclosures have floor stands with mounting plates. Ensure you have the proper fasteners for your chosen mounting method.

  2. Mount the Enclosure

Secure the enclosure to the wall or floor using the appropriate fasteners in all mounting holes. For floor-mounted enclosures, ensure the floor is level or use shims under the enclosure corners as needed. For wall-mounted enclosures, ensure the mounting surface is flat to prevent door issues.

  3. Adjust Door Closing (if necessary)

If the door does not open and close properly, or if it sags due to heavy equipment, adjust as follows: For single-door enclosures, place metal shims behind the bottom mounting foot closest to the hinge if the top of the door strikes the body opening lip. For two-door enclosures, place metal shims under the corners if the floor is not level, ensuring the doors meet evenly. Bolt the enclosure in place with doors closed before installing shims.

  4. Install the Interior Panel

When installing the interior panel, you may need to slightly bend mounting studs to align the panel. Position the panel on the studs that line up, then use a screwdriver inserted through the panel holes to pry the remaining studs into place.

  5. Remove or Invert Print Pocket

The print pocket on the door can be inverted or removed entirely as needed.

  6. Install Hubs and Devices

Use agency Type rated hubs or devices of equal rating to the enclosure. Ensure hole openings and installation follow manufacturer instructions. Verify adequate hole-to-hole spacing for tightening and that installation does not interfere with the enclosure's gasket or edges. Conduit connections should be on the top, bottom, and sides.
