  1. Remove the cable sheath

    Mark a length of six feet (2 meters) from the end of the cable on the outer sheath. Use a sheath knife to ring the circumference of the sheath at this mark, then gently flex the cable to separate and remove the sheath.

  2. Prepare the cable core

    Once the outer sheath is removed, cut the ripcord and unwrap the binder strings from around the buffer tubes. Separate the color-coded buffer tubes from the central strength member and cut the central strength member to the proper length.

  3. Prepare the buffer tubes

    Check the blade setting on the buffer tube removal tool and ring a small section near the end of the tube. Measure and mark the length of the tube to be removed, then use the tool to score the tube and gently flex it to break at the scored point.

  4. Access the optical fibers

    Determine which fibers to access and mark the buffer tubes accordingly. Use the buffer tube slitter to carefully cut the buffer tube and peel away the slit section to expose the optical fibers.

  5. Strip the optical fibers

    Using the primary coating stripping tool, remove the 250 μm diameter coating from the fibers. Wipe the fibers with an alcohol-dampened cloth to remove any residual debris.
