Supplies needed:
Clean Cotton Cloths, Water Absorbent Tape, Binder Strings, Flame Barrier Tape
- Remove the cable sheath
Mark a length of six feet (2 meters) from the end of the cable on the outer sheath. Use a sheath knife to 'ring' the circumference of the sheath at this mark and gently flex the cable to separate the sheath. Discard the removed sheath section.
- Prepare the cable core
Once the outer sheath is removed, cut the ripcord and unwrap the binder strings from around the buffer tubes. Separate the color-coded buffer tubes from the central strength member and cut the central strength member to the appropriate length for the closure being used.
- Prepare the optical fibers
Using scissors, cut the fibers to the desired length, typically at the midpoint of the exposed fibers. Strip the primary coating from the fibers using the primary coating stripping tool, and wipe any residual debris with an alcohol-dampened cloth.
