Overview

The Panduit FOMPX24Y is a 24-fiber, OM3, plenum-rated (OFCP) indoor/outdoor armored stranded cable, designed for robust and reliable data transmission in demanding environments. This cable features 250 µm fibers, ensuring excellent performance for high-speed networking applications. Its armored construction provides superior crush and rodent resistance, making it suitable for direct burial and harsh industrial settings, while the plenum rating allows for installation in air-handling spaces without compromising safety standards. The OM3 fiber type supports 10 Gigabit Ethernet up to 300 meters and 40/100 Gigabit Ethernet up to 100 meters, making it ideal for data centers, enterprise backbones, and campus networks. The stranded fiber construction enhances flexibility, simplifying installation and routing in complex pathways. Manufactured in the USA, the FOMPX24Y offers a dependable solution for interbuilding backbone, data center, and horizontal installations where both indoor and outdoor cable runs are required. This cable is engineered for easy stripping of its buffered fibers, facilitating faster and more consistent termination processes. Its all-dielectric construction eliminates the need for bonding, further streamlining installation. The Panduit FOMPX24Y is a versatile choice for applications requiring a durable, high-capacity fiber optic cable that meets stringent safety and performance requirements. Its robust design ensures long-term reliability and signal integrity across diverse installation scenarios.

How to Prepare Fiber Optic Indoor/Outdoor Stranded Loose Tube Cable

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the preparation of fiber optic cables, including sheath removal, core preparation, and fiber preparation.

Estimated time: 1h

Tools needed:

Eye and Hand Protection, Approved Cable Cutters, Needle Nose Pliers, Sheath Knife, Buffer Tube Removal Tool, Primary Coating Stripping Tool, Tape Measure, Scissors/Snips

Supplies needed:

Clean Cotton Cloths, Water Absorbent Tape, Binder Strings, Flame Barrier Tape

  1. Remove the cable sheath

Mark a length of six feet (2 meters) from the end of the cable on the outer sheath. Use a sheath knife to 'ring' the circumference of the sheath at this mark and gently flex the cable to separate the sheath. Discard the removed sheath section.

  2. Prepare the cable core

Once the outer sheath is removed, cut the ripcord and unwrap the binder strings from around the buffer tubes. Separate the color-coded buffer tubes from the central strength member and cut the central strength member to the appropriate length for the closure being used.

  3. Prepare the optical fibers

Using scissors, cut the fibers to the desired length, typically at the midpoint of the exposed fibers. Strip the primary coating from the fibers using the primary coating stripping tool, and wipe any residual debris with an alcohol-dampened cloth.
