Overview

The Panduit Opticom FRME2U Rack Mount Fiber Enclosure (SKU: FRME2U) is a 2RU, zero-unit footprint solution designed to house, organize, manage, and protect fiber optic cable terminations, splices, connectors, and patch cords in industrial and enterprise networks. Constructed from rugged steel with a powder-coated black finish, this enclosure ensures long-term durability and environmental resistance in demanding applications. The FRME2U features six FAP/cassette slots, accommodating up to six FAP or FMP adapter panels or FOSM splice modules, providing flexible configuration for LC, SC, or MTP/MPO terminations. Front and rear pullout drawers enable easy access for maintenance and reconfiguration, while a spiral binding tube protects fiber pigtails and maintains bend radius compliance. The enclosure includes a splice protector holder for up to 24 fiber splices, a label and label cover for industrial-grade identification, and a rubber gasket to limit dust and moisture ingress. Compatible with 1-port MTP adapter plates for MTP-LC fanout applications and universal 6-PAK plates, the FRME2U supports high-density fiber deployments up to 24 fibers with LC Quad adapters. Designed for side-mount installation on 19-inch racks without occupying standard rack units, this enclosure is ideal for space-constrained environments such as data centers, telecom rooms, and industrial control panels. The FRME2U measures 3.48"H x 17.00"W x 14.20"D (88.0mm x 432.0mm x 361.0mm) and is wall-mountable for cabinets with a minimum width of 800mm and 60mm side clearance. A keyed lock kit is available for securing internal premise wiring. This enclosure is manufactured in the USA and distributed by Panduit, ensuring compliance with industry standards for fiber optic infrastructure.

How to Install the FRME2U Fiber Optic Enclosure

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for mounting and wiring the FRME2U Fiber Optic Enclosure in a rack system.

Estimated time: 1h

Tools needed:

Screwdriver, Wire strippers, Multimeter

Supplies needed:

Mounting screws, Cable entry grommet, Strain relief bracket, Bend radius control clips, Slack spools, Tak-Tys, Adhesive backed mounts

  1. Mount the enclosure

Position the enclosure mounting brackets at the desired location on the rack. Secure the enclosure to the rack using four #12-24 x 1/2" screws. Ensure the enclosure is level and firmly attached.

  2. Prepare the cable entry

Determine the cable entry point and carefully remove the knock-out without damaging the surrounding sheet metal. Do not install the grommet at this stage.

  3. Install the strain relief bracket

Install the strain relief bracket near the cable entry point. Secure it using a #10-32 x 3/8" screw and a #10-32 hex nut.

  4. Route the fiber cables

Route the fiber cables through the cable entry grommet, ensuring enough slack for one complete loop around the slack spools. Use Tak-Tys to secure the fiber cords at the cable entry location.

  5. Install bend radius control clips

Install the bend radius control clips by sliding them over the sliding tray flange. Push the grommet/plunger through the clip and secure it fully.

  6. Attach the front door

Position the front door on top of the hinge and against the inner and outer tabs. Bend the bottom of each side until the pins drop into the hinge.

  7. Label the enclosure

Attach the laser warning label and caution label in clearly visible locations on the enclosure.
