How to Install a Panduit EL2P PDU

- Prepare the Installation Environment
Ensure the installation environment is temperature and humidity controlled, indoors, and free of conductive contaminants. Maintain a minimum clearance of 2-3 inches around the PDU for effective airflow and seal unused rack spaces with blanking panels to optimize thermal management. Ambient temperature must not exceed 0°C to 60°C (32°F to 140°F).
- Mount the PDU in the Rack
Depending on your PDU form factor (vertical 0U or horizontal 1U/2U), install the PDU into the datacenter rack. For vertical PDUs, insert the pre-installed mounting buttons into the rack's keyhole slots and secure with a #2 Phillips screwdriver to 3.0Nm. For horizontal PDUs, install cage nuts at the desired U location, then screw the PDU's mounting bracket ears into the RETMA rail surface. For high power horizontal PDUs, use a 2.5mm hex key Allen wrench to secure front mounting brackets to the chassis.
- Ground the PDU
Connect a ground bonding cable from the external ground bonding point on the PDU chassis to a reliable grounded (earthed) connection, such as a grounding strip or bus bar in the rack, or a known earthed reference terminal in the building. Ensure the conductor size meets national or local electrical codes (e.g., 14 AWG for up to 15A, 12 AWG for up to 20A). This provides supplementary Earth bonding to the rack metalwork. WARNING: Ensure a reliable grounded (earthed) connection before connecting power distribution products to AC power to reduce the risk of electric shock due to high leakage currents.
- Connect the PDU to a Power Source
Before connecting, ensure the feed circuit breaker is OFF and all circuit breakers on the PDU are set to ON. Connect the PDU's input power cord to a dedicated, appropriately rated, and grounded (earthed) branch circuit outlet. Verify the PDU's input ratings on the compliance label. Once connected, turn the feed circuit breaker ON and allow the operating system to load until the Main Menu displays on the screen. WARNING: Connect only to a circuit providing appropriate branch circuit overcurrent protection and ensure devices connected to the PDU are compatible with the line voltage.
- Rotate or Replace Network Controller (Optional)
If desired, rotate or replace the network controller module. Use a T10 Torx screwdriver to remove the two retaining screws. If rotating, disconnect the ribbon cable to prevent damage, rotate the controller, then carefully reconnect the ribbon cable. If replacing, disconnect the old ribbon cable and connect it to the new controller. Re-mate the controller to the PDU chassis, ensuring no pinching of the ribbon cable, and secure with the two T10 Torx screws, torquing to 2.2–3.1 lbf-in [0.25–0.35 N-M] to avoid metal deformation.
- Configure Dual Rated PDUs (Optional)
For dual-rated PDUs, perform the necessary CLI configuration step to enable the Web interface to report the correct power capacity. Refer to the User Manual for specific CLI commands.
