Supplies needed:
PDU mounting hardware (screws, cage nuts), Ground bonding cable (if required), Copper conductors for bonding (e.g., 14 AWG)
- Prepare for PDU Mounting
Determine the appropriate mounting location for your PDU (vertical 0U space or horizontal 1U/2U rack unit). Ensure sufficient clearance for airflow, especially for 100A/125A PDUs, maintaining 2 to 3 inches between the PDU chassis and cabinet frame. If installing a horizontal PDU, install cage nuts at the desired U location on the rack's RETMA rails.
- Mount the PDU in the Rack
For vertical PDUs, insert the pre-installed mounting buttons into the keyhole slots on the rack's mounting bracket and secure with a #2 Phillips screwdriver to 3.0Nm. For horizontal PDUs, screw the mounting bracket ears into the RETMA rail surfaces where cage nuts were installed. For high-power horizontal PDUs, also secure front mounting brackets to the PDU chassis using a 2.5mm hex key Allen wrench.
- Ground the PDU
Connect a ground bonding cable from the external earthing screw on the PDU chassis to a reliable earthed reference terminal or grounding strip within the rack. Ensure the conductor size complies with national or local electrical codes (e.g., 14 AWG for up to 15A, 12 AWG for up to 20A).
- Connect PDU to Power Source
Before connecting, turn OFF the feed circuit breaker for the power source. Verify all circuit breakers on the PDU are set to ON. Connect the PDU's input power cord to an appropriately rated, grounded branch circuit outlet, adhering to all local and national electrical codes. Refer to the PDU's compliance label for input ratings. Finally, turn ON the feed circuit breaker and allow the PDU's operating system to load.
