This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing a Panduit EL2P Rack Power Distribution Unit (PDU) into a datacenter rack or cabinet, covering mounting, grounding, and power connections.

- Prepare for Installation and Review Safety Information
Before beginning, ensure all circuit breakers are in the off position. Verify that the devices connected to the PDU are compatible with the line voltage. Be aware of high leakage currents and ensure a reliable grounded connection to reduce electric shock risk. Install the PDU in a temperature and humidity controlled, indoor environment. WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock and damage to the equipment, ensure a reliable grounded (earthed) connection before connecting power distribution products to AC power. All installations must be performed by qualified personnel.
- Install Vertical PDU Mounting Hardware
Position the vertical PDU within the rack. Insert the PDU's pre-installed mounting buttons into the keyhole slots on the rack's PDU mounting bracket. Secure the PDU firmly using a #2 Phillips screwdriver, tightening to a recommended torque of 3.0Nm. Ensure the PDU is positioned to avoid blocking exhaust airflow pathways of adjacent IT equipment, maintaining 2 to 3 inches clearance.
- Install Horizontal PDU Mounting Hardware
For horizontal 1U or 2U PDUs, install cage nuts at the desired U location on both the front and, for high-power units, the rear RETMA rails of the rack. Screw the PDU's mounting bracket ears into the RETMA rail surfaces where the cage nuts were installed. If necessary, adjust the mounting ear positions by removing and re-installing screws. Secure the front mounting brackets to the PDU chassis using a 2.5mm hex key Allen wrench, tightening the socket head screws.
- Ground the PDU
Connect a ground bonding cable from the external ground bonding point on the PDU chassis to a known earthed reference terminal in the building or a grounding strip/bus bar in the rack. Ensure the conductor size meets national or local electrical codes (e.g., 14 AWG for up to 15A, 12 AWG for up to 20A). This provides supplementary Earth bonding to the rack metalwork.
- Connect PDU to Power Source
Ensure the feed circuit breaker is Off and all circuit breakers on the PDU are set to On. Connect the PDU's input power cord to an appropriately rated, grounded (earthed) branch circuit, adhering to all local and national electrical codes. Refer to the compliance label on the PDU for input ratings. Once connected, turn the feed circuit breaker On and wait for the operating system to load and the Main Menu to display.
- Rotate or Replace Network Controller (Optional)
If a specific orientation of the physical ports is preferred, or if replacing the module, use a T10 Torx screwdriver to remove the two retaining screws from the network control module. If rotating, disconnect the ribbon cable to prevent damage, then rotate the controller and carefully reconnect the ribbon cable, avoiding crimping. If replacing, disconnect the old ribbon cable and connect it to the new controller. Reinstall the module and torque the screws to 2.2–3.1 lbf-in [0.25–0.35 N-M].
