How to Install and Configure a Panduit G5 Power Distribution Unit (PDU)

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for qualified personnel to safely install and initially configure a Panduit G5 Metered, Switched, or Metered & Switched PDU into a datacenter rack. Follow all safety precautions.

Estimated time: 1h

Tools needed:

Phillips screwdriver, Torx screwdriver

Supplies needed:

Mounting hardware, Ground bonding cable

  1. Mount the PDU in the Rack

Secure the PDU to the rack using the appropriate mounting hardware for its form factor. For vertical PDUs, install mounting buttons and insert them into the rack's keyhole slots. For 1U/2U PDUs, install cage nuts and screw the mounting bracket ears into the RETMA rail. Ensure the PDU is firmly attached and level. Use only the provided hardware for installation.

  2. Ground the PDU

Connect a ground bonding cable from the external ground bonding point on the PDU chassis to a known earthed reference terminal or the rack's grounding strip/bus bar. Ensure a reliable grounded connection before connecting AC power to reduce the risk of electric shock due to high leakage currents. Refer to local and national electrical codes for conductor requirements.

  3. Connect the PDU to a Power Source

WARNING: Ensure all feed circuit breakers are OFF before connecting power. Connect the PDU's input power cord to a grounded (earthed) electrical outlet providing appropriate branch circuit overcurrent protection. Verify the PDU's input ratings on its label. After connecting, ensure all PDU circuit breakers are ON, then turn the feed circuit breaker ON. The PDU's display will show status during startup. To isolate this equipment, disconnect the power cord.

  4. Configure Universal Input PDU Input Type (if applicable)

If installing a Universal Input PDU, access its Web interface (refer to the User Manual for connection instructions). Navigate to the 'System Management' page under settings, then select 'Set Input Cord' under actions. Choose the correct cord type from the pull-down menu that matches your input cord part number. Select 'Save' and the PDU will reset. Incorrect configuration may lead to inaccurate metering and power rating display. This step must be performed by a skilled person.
