This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing Panduit EL2P Power Distribution Units (PDUs) into a datacenter rack or cabinet, covering physical mounting, grounding, and connecting to a power source. - Prepare the Rack Environment
Ensure proper airflow by positioning the PDU to maintain a minimum clearance of 2 to 3 inches from the cabinet frame or side panels. Seal any unused rack spaces with blanking panels to promote front-to-back airflow containment. For optimal cooling, orient the PDU's venting towards the cabinet's dedicated exhaust fans or hot aisle.
- Mount the PDU in the Rack
For vertical PDUs, insert the pre-installed mounting buttons into the keyhole slots on the rack's PDU mounting bracket and secure with a #2 Phillips screwdriver to 3.0Nm. For horizontal PDUs, install cage nuts at desired U locations (front and rear). Screw mounting bracket ears into the RETMA rail surfaces. For high-power units, also screw front mounting brackets to the PDU chassis using a 2.5mm hex key Allen wrench.
- Ground the PDU
Connect a ground bonding cable from the external ground bonding point on the PDU chassis to a known earthed reference terminal or the rack's grounding strip/bus bar. Use an external earthing screw with a star washer for supplementary bonding. Ensure conductor sizes meet national or local electrical codes (e.g., 14 AWG for up to 15A, 12 AWG for up to 20A).
- Connect the PDU to a Power Source
WARNING: Ensure all feed circuit breakers are OFF before connecting power. Verify that all circuit breakers on the PDU are set to ON. Connect the PDU's input power cord to an appropriately rated, grounded branch circuit, adhering to all local and national electrical codes. Refer to the compliance label for input ratings. Turn the feed circuit breaker ON and wait for the operating system to load and the Main Menu to display.
- Adjust Network Controller Orientation (Optional)
