Overview

The NSI Industries SGB-38414 is a zinc die-cast split insulated grounding bushing designed for post-wire-pull installation in conduit systems. This innovative bushing eliminates the need to burn through traditional bushings or use pullers, significantly reducing installation time and labor costs. Its split design allows for easy installation after wires are already pulled through EMT, rigid, or IMC conduits. The SGB-38414 features an integrated aluminum alloy 6061-T6 grounding lug with tin electro-plated finish, ensuring reliable ground continuity for wire sizes ranging from 14 AWG to 4 AWG copper or aluminum. The insulating nylon surface is rated for 150°C and covers the bushing's top including lug corners, providing superior protection against electrical hazards. This bushing includes a cone-point mounting screw with a nylon locking patch that securely fastens to both threaded and non-threaded rigid conduits, preventing loosening due to vibration. Its ball-burnished mirror-smooth finish resists corrosion and is ideal for outdoor applications including solar installations. Key dimensions: A=1.54", B=1.97", C=0.73", D=1.34", E=2.08". Trade size compatibility: 1-1/4". Patented design with stainless steel hardware for enhanced durability.

How to Install the Mighty-BOND™ Split Grounding/Bonding Bushing

This guide provides instructions for installing the Mighty-BOND™ Split Grounding/Bonding Bushing. Its unique design allows for installation around conductors already pulled through the raceway, ensuring code-compliant grounding.

Estimated time: 15m

Tools needed:

Screwdriver

Supplies needed:

Grounding or bonding conductor

  1. Position the Bushing

Open the Mighty-Bond™ split bushing and place it around the conductors, onto the top of the threaded end of the Rigid Metal Conduit (RMC), Intermediate Metal Conduit (IMC), or fitting.

  2. Close and Align the Bushing

Close the Mighty-Bond™ bushing, ensuring the set screw has been backed out sufficiently to allow the two halves to close fully on the threaded conduit or fitting. Align the bushing to access the set screw, grounding lug, and hinge screw, making sure it is as far down on the conduit or fitting threads as possible.

  3. Secure the Bushing

Tighten the hinge screw first, followed by the set screw. If applicable, tighten the enclosure bonding screw. Tighten all screws to UL Torque requirements (35 in-lb).

  4. Connect the Grounding Conductor

Insert the appropriate sized grounding or bonding conductor into the lug. Tighten the lug screw according to UL Recommended torque: 35 in-lb for 10-14 AWG Copper/10-12 AWG Aluminum; 40 in-lb for 8 AWG; 45 in-lb for 4-6 AWG; 50 in-lb for 2/0-3 AWG.
