Molded Junction Box, Length 4 Inch x Width 4 Inch x Depth 2 Inch, Material Polycarbonate, Color GrayHow to Install and Crimp NSI Copper Compression Connectors
Install NSI copper compression lugs or splices on concentric, compressed, or compact copper conductors. This guide covers stripping, cleaning, inserting, and crimping the conductor using approved tools and dies.
Estimated time: 15m
Tools needed:
Wire stripper, Wire brush, Approved crimp tool or die set (for example NSI N12ID or N1240), Mechanical crimp tool if applicable (NSI M-250 or M-500 for supported cable size
Supplies needed:
NSI copper compression connector sized for the conductor, Copper conductor cable
- Select the correct connector
Choose a lug or splice connector that matches the cable size and application. Verify the connector series and tool/die compatibility before starting, and do not use an undersized or mismatched connector.
- Strip the conductor insulation
Carefully strip the insulation from the conductor without nicking the strands. Strip enough length so the conductor will fully insert into the connector barrel and completely fill it.
- Clean the stripped conductor
Wire brush the stripped portion of the conductor to remove oxide films and contamination. Ensure the conductor is clean before insertion, because poor surface condition can reduce connection quality.
- Insert the conductor fully
Insert the stripped conductor completely into the connector barrel until it is fully seated. Confirm that the conductor fills the barrel and that no strands are left outside the connector.
- Crimp the connector with approved tools
Crimp the connector using an approved UL-certified tool and the correct die for the connector size. Follow the barrel markings for suggested crimp locations, and apply the required number of crimps; long-barrel lugs and splices require twice the crimps shown in the table.
- Verify the finished connection
Inspect the crimped connector to confirm it is secure and properly formed. Make sure the conductor remains fully seated and that the connector was crimped at the correct locations for the selected tool and series.
