How to Operate the TBM6PCR-LI Hydraulic Compression Tool

This guide provides comprehensive instructions for charging the battery, attaching it to the TBM6PCR-LI hydraulic compression tool, performing safe and effective compression operations, and configuring the auto-retract feature.

Estimated time: 45m

Tools needed:

Hydraulic Compression Tool (TBM6PCR-LI), Charger (CHR-MK), Compression Dies (DBL, 6 Ton Series, or Burndy "W" type), Flat blade screwdriver

Supplies needed:

Battery (BAT-MK), Conductor, Connector, Safety glasses, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

  1. Charge the TBM6PCR-LI Battery

Connect the BAT-MK battery charger to a 120V AC power source; the charging light will repeatedly flash green. Insert the Battery (BAT-MK) firmly into the charger. The LED Lamp will light red [CHARGING]. Allow approximately 45 minutes for a full charge, indicated by a green LED lamp and a melody or beep. If the LED flashes red [HIGH TEMPERATURE], allow the battery to cool before charging. Do not power the Charger with a portable generator or any other power source other than 120V AC.

  2. Attach the Battery Pack to the Tool

Slide the charged Battery (BAT-MK) into the base of the Hydraulic Compression Tool (TBM6PCR-LI) until it stops and the latches engage. Gently pull the battery without pressing the latches to ensure it is securely attached. To detach, pull out the Battery while pressing the latches.

  3. Select and Insert Compression Dies

Wear safety glasses and any other required PPE. Select the appropriate size dies for the connector you are using. Insert one die half into the C-head of the tool and the other half of the die into the Ram. If using Burndy 'W' type dies, first install the DBL die set, then install the 'W' dies over the DBL dies, securing them in place with the spring-loaded pins.

  4. Perform a Conductor Compression

WARNING: Pinch points, keep hands and other body parts away from the crimping head when crimping. Compression dies at high force can cause severe personal injury. Place the connector between the dies. Press the advance trigger to advance the Ram so the connector is held lightly between the dies; do not deform the connector. Insert the conductor into the connector. Press the trigger until the compression is complete, indicated by a series of clicks, a release in pressure, a green LED, and an audible beep. If the LED flashes red and beeps, the compression was incomplete or the battery is low. After compression, press the release button to retract the ram completely. Remove the compressed connector from the tool.

  5. Toggle Auto-Retract Feature (Optional)

The auto-retract feature can be toggled on or off depending on user preference or specific job requirement. To turn auto retraction off, remove the rubber grommet and use a flat blade screwdriver to rotate the indicator 90 degrees to the desired position.
