How to Set Up and Verify the BAT22-6NV2 Crimping Tool
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing the crimping dies and performing a calibration verification on the BAT22-6NV2 battery-powered crimping tool, ensuring safe and accurate operation.
Estimated time: 40m
Tools needed:
Screwdriver, Eye protection, Gage pins
Supplies needed:
BAT22-6NV2 Battery (10.8V Li-ion), Battery Charger (110V or 230V), Appropriate Crimping Die Set
- Charge the Battery
Refer to the instructions supplied with your battery charger (e.g., 52068603 or 52068604) to fully charge the 10.8V Li-ion battery (52068605). Ensure the charger is unplugged from the socket before removing the battery. A full charge takes approximately 40 minutes.
- Inspect the Tool and Wear Eye Protection
Before use, visually inspect the crimping tool and dies for any wear, damage such as cracks, gouges, or chips, and ensure the nest area is free of burrs, dents, or scratches. Always wear eye protection when operating or servicing this tool to prevent serious eye injury from flying debris.
- Install the Crimping Dies
Remove the battery from the tool. Select the proper die set for your crimping operation. Remove the screw, washer, and die mounting pins from the crimping head. Partially extend the ram by momentarily pulling the trigger to access and remove the ram's screw, washer, and pins. Insert one die half into the partially extended ram, install its 13mm pins (if applicable), screw, and washer, tightening snugly. Retract the ram. Insert the remaining die half into the crimping head, install its 18mm pins (if applicable), screw, and washer, tightening snugly. For DIE2001/DIE2500, omit pins and ensure dies align before tightening.
- Verify Tool Calibration
With dies installed, cycle the tool until dies bottom. Using appropriate gage pins, ensure each nest meets the gaging requirements specified in Tables 2-6 of the manual for your die set. Keep fingers clear of the die nest during this procedure. If the tool fails any test, do not attempt repair; contact a Thomas & Betts Service Center.
