How to Crimp Electrical Terminals with the TBM41E Compression Tool

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for safely and effectively using the TBM41E Comfort Crimp compression tool to install Color-Keyed® copper and aluminum lugs, splices, C-taps, and pigtails.

Tools needed:

TBM41E Comfort Crimp Compression Tool, Wire strippers, Gage pin (for calibration)

Supplies needed:

Color-Keyed® Copper or Aluminum Lugs, Splices, C-Taps, or Pigtails, Electrical wire (stripped)

  1. Prepare Tool and Observe Safety

Fully open the tool handles. Depress the wheel release button and rotate the die wheel to select the proper die nest for your terminal. Release the button to lock the wheel into position. WARNING: The handles are non-insulating; never crimp on hot energized wires. Keep all body parts away from the die nest during gaging or crimping procedures.

  2. Position Terminal and Wire

Insert the Color-Keyed® lug or terminal into the selected die nest. Close the tool handles slightly to gently secure the terminal without deforming it. Insert the stripped end of your electrical wire fully into the terminal barrel.

  3. Complete the Crimp

Close the tool handles firmly until the SHURE STAKE® mechanism cycle has been fully completed, indicating a proper crimp. For optimal connection, perform two equally spaced crimps on the terminal barrel. For larger wire and lug combinations requiring more force, place the Crimp Assist® Foot flat on a work surface to gain increased leverage during the crimping process.

  4. Verify Tool Gaging (Calibration)

To verify calibration, first wipe the die nest clean. Rotate the die wheel to the desired nest. Close the handles until the SHURE STAKE® mechanism just trips. Insert the appropriate gage pin into the nest; it should enter freely with minimal finger pressure and fall within the specified limits in Table 1 (e.g., RED .175-.187, BLUE .212-.224, GREY .265-.277, BROWN .324-.336, GREEN .406-.418). Perform this verification if damage is suspected or as operational conditions warrant.
