This guide provides instructions for operating the TBM45S COMFORT CRIMP® tool for installing Color-Keyed® copper and aluminum lugs, splices, C-taps, and pigtails. It also covers gaging verification and essential maintenance procedures.

Supplies needed:
Color-Keyed® Copper and Aluminum Lugs, Splices, C-Taps and Pigtails, Stripped wire, SAE No. 20 motor oil, Clean brush or soft, lint-free cloth
- Open Handles and Select Die
Open the tool handles fully. Depress the wheel release button and rotate the die wheel to the proper die nest for your terminal type. Release the button to ensure the wheel locks securely into position. WARNING: HANDLES ARE NON-INSULATING. DO NOT CRIMP ON HOT ENERGIZED WIRES. KEEP ALL BODY PARTS AWAY FROM DIE NEST DURING GAGING OR CRIMPING PROCEDURE.
- Insert Terminal
Insert the terminal into the selected die nest. Close the handles slightly to secure the terminal, taking care not to deform it before crimping.
- Insert Stripped Wire
Insert the stripped wire completely into the terminal barrel.
- Complete Crimp Cycle
Close the handles until the SHURE STAKE® mechanism cycle has been fully completed. For a secure connection, perform two equally spaced crimps on the terminal barrel.
- Prepare for Gaging Verification
Wipe the die nest clean before performing any gaging procedure. Rotate the die wheel to the desired nest that you intend to verify.
- Perform Gaging
Close the tool handles until the SHURE STAKE® mechanism just trips. Insert the correct size gage pin into the nest. The gage pin should enter the nest area freely with minimum finger pressure and fall within the specified limits (e.g., RED .175-.187, BLUE .212-.224, GREY .265-.277, BROWN .324-.336, GREEN .406-.418).
- Clean the Tool
Remove dust, moisture, and other contaminants from the tool using a clean brush or a soft, lint-free cloth. Do not use the tool on objects that could cause damage.
- Lubricate and Store
Apply a thin coat of any good SAE No. 20 motor oil to all pins, pivot points, and bearing surfaces, avoiding excessive oiling. Keep the handles closed when not in use to prevent objects from becoming lodged in the crimping dies. Store the tool in a cool, dry area.
- Release SHURE STAKE® Mechanism
In the event that the SHURE STAKE® mechanism must be released, push up on the release bar until the ratchet teeth are disengaged.
