How to Install the STX075-465S Star Teck Cable Fitting
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for preparing, wiring, and sealing the STX075-465S Star Teck cable fitting using liquid-type sealing compound (SC4-KIT-1). Installation must be performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes. WARNING: De-energize all circuits before installation to prevent electrical shock.
Estimated time: 2h
Tools needed:
Hacksaw, Wire strippers, Screwdriver, Damp cloth
Supplies needed:
STX075-465S Cable Fitting, Compatible cable (0.617-0.805 inch over armor, 0.725-0.885 inch over jacket), SC4-KIT-1 LIQUID SEALANT (1 unit = 50cc), Fiber damming material, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including gloves
- Prepare the Cable
Determine the required working length of conductors inside the enclosure or device. Remove a portion of the outer jacket to expose the cable armor, then cut the armor using a hacksaw. CAUTION: Do not nick or cut the conductor insulation. Trim the outer jacket to achieve an exposed armor strip length of 0.612 inches, as specified for the STX075-465S.
- Secure Cable into Gland Nut
Feed the prepared cable through the gland nut opening and push until the cable armor hits the end stop. Tighten the gland nut to obtain an appropriate seal or to the maximum torque of 8 in-lbs for the STX075-465S. Ensure the bushing and collar ring seal evenly around the cable’s outer jacket and are flush with the gland nut face, keeping the cable centered for an optimal seal.
- Disassemble and Prepare for Sealing Compound
Disassemble the hub from the body sub-assembly by loosening the union. Unscrew the sealing chamber from the body sub-assembly. Trim the inner jacket to a length of 1/8” to 3/8” to expose the conductor bundle. If installing shielded data cables, additionally remove the outer (overall) shield from the conductor bundle, taking care not to nick or damage inner shields, and remove any filler materials.
- Apply Liquid Sealing Compound (SC4-KIT-1)
Pack the fiber damming material tightly into all voids between the conductors and the body, spreading strands of any uninsulated grounding conductor where applicable. Screw the sealing chamber back onto the body subassembly until it completely seats. Position the cable and fitting vertically. Mix the SC4-KIT-1 liquid sealing compound following its package instructions. Dispense the compound into the end of the sealing chamber until the level stabilizes and fills to the top. CAUTION: Remove all excess compound material from the outside of the sealing chamber with a damp cloth; do not use abrasive cleaners.
- Complete Final Assembly and Curing
Mount the hub in the desired location. Allow the sealing compound to solidify for approximately 1 hour. Once the compound is solidified, place the encapsulated assembly (cable with sealed chamber) into the hub and secure it in position by tightening the union until it bottoms (metal-to-metal contact).
