Overview

This fitting features a 3/4" NPT hub and accommodates jacket diameters from 0.825 to 0.985 inches, making it ideal for applications requiring secure, watertight connections in corrosive or explosive environments. Key features include a stainless steel retaining ring for corrosion resistance and non-magnetic performance, ensuring long-term reliability. The Power-Grip grounding ring provides 360° contact with the cable, delivering dependable grounding without additional sealing compounds. The tapered bushing design eliminates cupping and water ingress in vertical installations, while the low-profile gland nut simplifies installation in tight spaces. Grooves for screwdriver installation and flats for wrench use enhance usability, and the reusable design with funnel entry streamlines cable insertion. The STX075-466S is suitable for Class 1 Div. 2, Class II Div. 2, and Class III hazardous locations, meeting the demands of industries such as petrochemical, oil and gas, and manufacturing. Its steel construction ensures durability, while the disconnectable design reduces installation time and complexity. The fitting’s integral sealing chamber eliminates the need for separate sealants, improving efficiency and reducing maintenance overhead.

How to Install the STX075-466S Star Teck Cable Fitting

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the proper installation and sealing of the STX075-466S Star Teck cable fitting. Follow these procedures for safe and effective cable termination.

Estimated time: 1h 30m

Tools needed:

Hacksaw, Wire strippers, Torque wrench (capable of 1000 IN-LBS), Damp cloth, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including gloves

Supplies needed:

STX075-466S Cable Fitting, Compatible cable, SC4-KIT-1 LIQUID SEALANT (1 unit), Fiber damming material

  1. De-energize Circuits and Determine Cable Working Length

WARNING: Risk of electrical shock. Before installing or performing maintenance, verify that all circuits are de-energized. Determine the working length of conductors required inside the enclosure or device. Remove a portion of the outer jacket to expose the armor, then cut the armor using a hacksaw. CAUTION: Do not nick or cut the conductor insulation.

  2. Trim Outer Jacket and Feed Cable

Trim the outer jacket to adjust the exposed armor strip length to be between 0.825 and 0.985 inches over the jacket, and between 0.725 and 0.905 inches over the armor. Feed the cable through the gland nut opening and push until the cable armor hits the end stop.

  3. Tighten the Gland Nut

Tighten the gland nut to a maximum torque of 1000 IN-LBS to obtain an appropriate seal. Ensure the bushing and collar ring seal evenly around the cable’s outer jacket and are flush with the gland nut face. Keep the cable centered for an optimal seal.

  4. Disassemble Fitting and Prepare Conductors

Disassemble the hub from the body sub-assembly by loosening the union, then unscrew the sealing chamber from the body sub-assembly. Trim the inner jacket to a length of 1/8 to 3/8 inches to expose the conductor bundle. If using shielded data cables, also remove the outer (overall) shield and filler materials, taking care not to nick or damage inner shields.

  5. Apply Liquid Sealing Compound (SC4-KIT-1)

Pack the fiber damming material tightly into all voids between conductors and the body, spreading strands of uninsulated grounding conductor where applicable. Screw the sealing chamber back onto the body sub-assembly until it completely seats. Position the cable/fitting vertically. Mix the SC4-KIT-1 liquid sealing compound according to its package instructions. Dispense the compound into the end of the sealing chamber until it fills to the top and the level stabilizes. CAUTION: Remove all excess compound material from outside the sealing chamber with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners that may damage the flame path.

  6. Mount Hub and Secure Encapsulated Assembly

Mount the hub in the desired location. After the sealing compound has solidified (approximately 1 hour), place the encapsulated assembly into the hub. Secure it in position by tightening the union until it bottoms (metal to metal contact).
