How to Install Star Teck™ PVC Cable Fitting ST300-481PVC
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the proper installation of Star Teck™ PVC cable fittings, ensuring a secure and sealed connection for armored cables.
Estimated time: 20m
Tools needed:
Strap wrenches, Hacksaw, Utility knife
Supplies needed:
Wire pulling lubricant (optional)
- Ensure Safety and Select Fitting
WARNING: Disconnect all power before beginning installation to prevent risk of shock. Ensure the product is installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes. Select the appropriate Star Teck™ PVC cable fitting (e.g., ST300-481PVC) that matches your enclosure and cable specifications using the provided product table.
- Prepare the Cable
Determine the required working length of the cable. Carefully remove a portion of the cable's outer jacket to expose the armor. Use a hacksaw to cut the armor to the specified strip length, then trim the outer jacket to adjust the exposed armor strip length as indicated in the product table (refer to Figures 1 and 2 in the documentation).
- Prepare the Cable Boot
Prepare the cable boot by either Method 1: Unscrew the gland nut from the fitting body, force the square-cut cable into the boot, and then cut the boot in front of the cable end (Figure 3A). Or, Method 2: Strip the cable jacket off the armor, then progressively cut slices off the boot until the opening can snugly slide onto the cable armor (Figure 3B). CAUTION: Do not over-strip the boot; there should be no gaps between the boot and the cable jacket.
- Insert Cable into Fitting
Apply wire pulling lubricant (e.g., cat. number 15-236) to the cable if desired for easier installation. Feed the prepared cable through the gland nut opening and push it until the cable armor firmly hits the internal end stop of the fitting (Figure 4).
- Secure and Seal the Fitting
Using strap wrenches, tighten the gland nut onto the fitting body until an appropriate seal is achieved or the maximum torque specified in the product table is reached. Ensure the bushing seals evenly around the cable's outer jacket and the cable remains centered to obtain an optimal and secure seal (Figure 5).
