How to Install ST200-474SPVC Star Teck™ PVC Cable Fittings
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the safe and proper installation of ST200-474SPVC Star Teck™ PVC cable fittings (part of the ST050-462PVC to ST350-483PVC series), including preparing the cable and securing the fitting to ensure an optimal seal.
Estimated time: 30m
Tools needed:
Strap wrenches, Hacksaw
Supplies needed:
ST200-474SPVC Cable Fitting, Cable, Wire pulling lubricant (optional, Cat. No. 15-236)
- Select the Appropriate Fitting and Disconnect Power
Before starting, read and understand all instructions and safety information. WARNING: Disconnect power to the system before installation to prevent risk of shock. Select the appropriate Star Teck™ PVC cable fitting (e.g., ST200-474SPVC) that matches your enclosure and cable specifications. CAUTION: Ensure installation is performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes.
- Prepare the Cable
Determine the required working length of the cable. Carefully remove a portion of the outer jacket to expose the cable armor. Use a hacksaw to cut the armor, then trim the outer jacket to achieve the exposed armor strip length specified in the product table (refer to Figures 1 and 2 in the original document for visual guidance).
- Prepare the Cable Boot
Determine where to cut the cable boot using one of two methods. Method 1: Unscrew the gland nut from the body, force the square-cut cable into the boot, and then cut the boot in front of the cable (Figure 3A). Method 2: Strip the cable jacket off the armor, then progressively cut slices off the boot until the opening can snugly slide onto the armor (Figure 3B). CAUTION: Do not over strip the boot; there should be no gaps between the boot and the cable jacket.
- Insert Cable into Gland Nut
Feed the prepared cable through the gland nut opening. Push the cable until its armor firmly hits the internal end stop of the fitting (refer to Figure 4 in the original document).
- Secure and Seal the Fitting
Using strap wrenches, tighten the gland nut until an appropriate seal is obtained or to the maximum torque specified in the product table for your specific fitting (refer to Figure 5 in the original document). Ensure the bushing seals evenly around the cable's outer jacket and that the cable remains centered to achieve an optimal and secure seal.
