How to Install Star Teck PVC Cable Fittings (ST125-471SPVC Series)
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the proper installation of Star Teck PVC cable fittings, including cable preparation and sealing procedures. Ensure compliance with national and local electrical codes.
Estimated time: 30m
Tools needed:
Strap wrenches, Hacksaw, Wire strippers, Utility knife
Supplies needed:
Star Teck PVC cable fitting (e.g., ST125-471SPVC), Armored cable, Wire pulling lubricant (optional)
- Select the Correct Cable Fitting
Before beginning, select the appropriate Star Teck PVC cable fitting (e.g., ST125-471SPVC) that matches your enclosure and cable specifications. Refer to the product table in the documentation for compatibility. CAUTION: Product should be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes.
- Prepare the Cable Armor and Jacket
WARNING: Disconnect power before installation to prevent risk of shock. Determine the required working length of the cable. Carefully remove a portion of the outer jacket to expose the cable armor. Use a hacksaw to cut the armor, then trim the outer jacket to achieve the exposed armor strip length specified in the product table (refer to Figures 1 and 2 in the original documentation).
- Prepare the Cable Boot
Prepare the cable boot using one of two methods: Method 1: Unscrew the gland nut from the body, force the square-cut cable into the boot, then cut the boot in front of the cable (Figure 3A). Method 2: Strip the cable jacket off the armor, then progressively cut slices off the boot until the opening can snugly slide onto the armor (Figure 3B). CAUTION: Do not over strip the boot; there should be no gaps between the boot and the cable jacket.
- Insert Cable into Gland Nut
Feed the prepared cable through the gland nut opening. Push the cable until its armor firmly hits the internal end stop of the fitting (refer to Figure 4 in the original documentation).
- Secure and Seal the Fitting
Tighten the gland nut using strap wrenches until an appropriate seal is achieved or the maximum torque specified in the product table is reached. Ensure the bushing seals evenly around the cable's outer jacket and the cable remains centered for an optimal seal (refer to Figure 5 in the original documentation). CAUTION: Use strap wrenches only for PVC coated fittings to prevent damage.
