How to Install Star Teck PVC Cable Fittings

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the safe and proper installation of Star Teck PVC Series cable fittings, including cable preparation and sealing procedures. Ensure all safety warnings are observed.

Estimated time: 30m

Tools needed:

Strap wrenches, Hacksaw

Supplies needed:

Appropriate Star Teck PVC cable fitting (e.g., ST150-472SPVC), Cable with outer jacket and armour, Wire pulling lubricant (optional, Cat. No. 15-236)

  1. Disconnect Power and Select Fitting

WARNING: Risk of shock, disconnect all power before beginning installation. CAUTION: This product must be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes. Select the appropriate Star Teck PVC cable fitting that accommodates your enclosure and cable specifications, referring to the assembly and table provided in the product documentation.

  2. Prepare the Cable

Determine the required working length of the cable. Remove a portion of the outer jacket to expose the cable armour. Use a hacksaw to cut the armour, then trim the outer jacket to achieve the exposed armour strip length specified in the product table (refer to Figures 1 and 2 in the instruction sheet).

  3. Prepare the Cable Boot

Choose one of two methods to prepare the cable boot: Method 1: Unscrew the gland nut from the fitting body. Force the square-cut cable into the boot, then cut the boot in front of the cable (Figure 3A). Method 2: Strip the cable jacket off the armour. Progressively cut slices off the boot until the opening can snugly slide onto the armour (Figure 3B). CAUTION: Do not over strip the boot; there should be no gaps between the boot and the cable jacket.

  4. Insert the Cable

Feed the prepared cable through the gland nut opening. Push the cable until its armour firmly hits the end stop inside the fitting (Figure 4). The use of wire pulling lubricant (e.g., Cat. No. 15-236) is recommended to facilitate easier installation.

  5. Secure and Seal the Fitting

Tighten the gland nut using strap wrenches until an appropriate seal is obtained or to the maximum torque specified in the product table (refer to the table and Figure 5). Ensure the bushing seals evenly around the cable’s outer jacket and that the cable remains centered to achieve an optimal seal.
