How to Install the ST100-469SPVC Star Teck PVC Cable Fitting

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for preparing the cable and installing the ST100-469SPVC Star Teck PVC cable fitting to ensure a proper seal and secure connection.

Estimated time: 30m

Tools needed:

Hacksaw, Strap wrenches

Supplies needed:

ST100-469SPVC Cable Fitting, Armored Cable (appropriate size), Wire pulling lubricant (optional, e.g., cat. number 15-236)

  1. Prepare the Cable

WARNING: Risk of shock, disconnect power before installation. CAUTION: Product should be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes. Determine the required working length of the cable. Remove a portion of the outer jacket to expose the cable armor. Use a hacksaw to cut the armor, then trim the outer jacket to achieve the exposed armor strip length specified in the product table (refer to Figures 1 and 2 in the original document).

  2. Prepare the Cable Boot

CAUTION: Do not over strip the boot; ensure no gaps remain between the boot and the cable jacket. Choose one of the following methods to prepare the cable boot: Method 1: Unscrew the gland nut from the fitting body. Force the square-cut cable into the boot, then cut the boot directly in front of the cable end (Figure 3A). Method 2: Strip the cable jacket off the armor. Progressively cut thin slices off the boot until the opening can snugly slide onto the cable armor (Figure 3B). The use of wire pulling lubricant can facilitate this step.

  3. Insert and Secure the Cable

Feed the prepared cable through the gland nut opening. Push the cable until the cable armor firmly hits the internal end stop of the fitting (Figure 4). Tighten the gland nut using strap wrenches until an appropriate seal is achieved or to the maximum torque specified in the product table (e.g., 700 in-lbs for ST100-469PVC). Ensure the bushing seals evenly around the cable’s outer jacket and the cable remains centered for an optimal seal (Figure 5).
