How to Install Star Teck Cable Fittings
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing Star Teck cable fittings, including cable preparation and proper sealing. WARNING: Disconnect power before installation. This product should be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes.
Estimated time: 20m
Tools needed:
Hacksaw, Wire strippers, Wrench
Supplies needed:
Star Teck Cable Fitting, Armored Cable
- Select Appropriate Fitting
Select the appropriate Star Teck cable fitting that accommodates both the enclosure or device and the specific armored cable being used. Refer to the provided table in the instruction sheet for fitting specifications based on cable and jacket ranges.
- Prepare the Cable Armor
Determine the required working length of the conductor inside the enclosure or device. Carefully remove a portion of the cable's outer jacket to expose the armor. Using a hacksaw, cut the armor, then trim the outer jacket to achieve the exposed armor strip length specified in the table. CAUTION: Do not nick or cut the conductor insulation during this process.
- Feed Cable Through Gland Nut
Feed the prepared cable through the gland nut opening of the fitting. Push the cable until its armor firmly hits the internal end stop of the fitting, as illustrated in Figure 3.
- Tighten Gland Nut for Seal
Tighten the gland nut until an appropriate seal is obtained or to the maximum torque specified in the table. Ensure the bushing seals evenly around the cable's outer jacket and that the cable remains centered within the fitting to achieve an optimal seal, as shown in Figure 4.
