How to Install Star Teck™ Cable Fittings
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing Star Teck™ cable fittings, ensuring proper cable preparation and a secure, sealed connection to an enclosure. WARNING: Risk of shock, disconnect power before installation. CAUTION: Product should be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes.
Estimated time: 15m
Tools needed:
Hacksaw, Wire strippers, Torque wrench
Supplies needed:
Star Teck™ cable fitting, Armored cable, Enclosure or device
- Select the Correct Cable Fitting
Choose the Star Teck™ cable fitting that is appropriate for the specific enclosure and armored cable you are using. Refer to the provided table for compatibility based on cable range over armor and jacket.
- Prepare the Armored Cable
WARNING: Risk of shock, disconnect power before proceeding. First, determine the required working length of the conductor inside the enclosure or device. Then, carefully remove a portion of the cable's outer jacket to expose the armor. Use a hacksaw to cut the armor to the length specified in the table, and trim the outer jacket to match the exposed armor strip length. Exercise caution to avoid nicking or cutting the conductor insulation during this process.
- Insert Cable into Gland Nut
Feed the prepared armored cable through the opening of the gland nut. Push the cable firmly until its armor makes contact with the internal end stop of the fitting, as shown in Figure 3 of the documentation.
- Secure and Seal the Fitting
Tighten the gland nut until an appropriate seal is achieved around the cable's outer jacket, or tighten to the maximum torque specified in the table. Ensure the bushing seals evenly and the cable remains centered within the fitting to achieve an optimal and secure seal, as illustrated in Figure 4.
