How to Install the Sweetheart FLOOD-SEAL Mechanical Connector CS 4197 ROCKET
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the safe and proper installation of the Sweetheart FLOOD-SEAL Mechanical Connector CS 4197 ROCKET, covering cable preparation, conductor insertion, and torque specifications for a secure electrical connection.
Estimated time: 45m
Tools needed:
Torque wrench, 5/16 inch allen wrench, 3/8 inch drive ratchet with allen adapter, Wire brush
Supplies needed:
Silicone grease, Electrical compound
- Identify Cable Size and Prepare Rocket
Identify the service cable size you are using. Cut the rocket/cap ring at the tip of the arrow to expose the correct wire range for your cable.
- Prepare Insulating Sleeve
Cut off the tip of the insulating sleeve at the arrow, ensuring the correct cable size is visible on the sleeve.
- Strip Cable Insulation
Strip approximately 2 1/4 inches of insulation from the cable to bare the conductor. Penciling the edge of the insulation is recommended to ease installation.
- Clean Conductor and Apply Compound
Thoroughly wire brush the bare conductor to remove surface oxides. Apply electrical compound and brush it into the conductor strands.
- Apply Grease and Slide Rocket
Wipe the cable clean. Apply the included silicone grease and then slide the prepared rocket over the cable.
- Insert Conductor into Barrel
Insert the prepared conductor into the outlet barrel, ensuring a maximum of 1/8 inch of bare conductor is showing.
- Position Rocket Sleeve
Slide the rocket sleeve over the outlet and onto the PVC shoulder until the rocket firmly butts against the connector bar.
- Tighten Setscrews to Torque
Tighten the setscrews onto the conductor using a torque wrench. For wire sizes #12 to #2, apply 120 in-lbs (10 ft-lbs) of torque. For 1/0 to 350 Kcmil, apply 360 in-lbs (30 ft-lbs) of torque. If a torque wrench is unavailable, use a 5/16 inch allen wrench or a 3/8 inch drive ratchet with an allen adapter.
