How to Install the K675BE 600/900 AMP Deadbreak Bushing Extension
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing the K675BE 600/900 AMP Deadbreak Bushing Extension, including cleaning, lubrication, assembly, torquing, and grounding procedures.
Tools needed:
Torque wrench, ELASTIMOLD 600SW spanner wrench, 600-AT, 600ATM
Supplies needed:
ELASTIMOLD approved lubricant, Double ended stud, Mating electrical connector (e.g., connecting plug, deadend plug, reducing tap plug, elbow tap plug), Compression lug (if using rubber connecting plug), #14 AWG copper grounding wire, Grounding connector, Protective cap (if using insulating plug)
- Prepare the Bushing Extension
Ensure all apparatus is de-energized during installation. Remove protective caps from the bushing extension. Clean the entire bushing extension interface and lubricate it with the supplied or ELASTIMOLD approved lubricant. Keep mating surfaces clean.
- Connect the Mating Product
Clean the entire interface of your chosen mating product (e.g., connecting plug, deadend plug, reducing tap plug, reducing tap well, or elbow tap plug) and lubricate it with the supplied or ELASTIMOLD approved lubricant. Finger tighten the double-ended stud, supplied with the bushing extension, into this mating product. Insert the assembled product into the bushing extension, engage the threads, and hand-tighten.
- Torque the Assembly
Using a torque wrench, tighten the assembly. For Insulating Plugs, Retainer Sleeve/Pin Contact, or Elbow Tap Plugs (using 600-AT or 600ATM as appropriate), torque to 50-60 foot-pounds. For Epoxy Connecting Plugs, Reducing Tap Plugs, or Tap Wells (using ELASTIMOLD 600SW spanner wrench), torque to 40-48 foot-pounds. For Rubber Connecting Plugs, temporarily install a compression lug and insulating plug, then torque the insulating plug nut to 50-60 foot-pounds. Hold the compression lug to prevent loosening when removing the insulating plug.
- Complete Mating Component Assembly
Clean the remaining interface of the connecting plug, reducing tap plug, reducing tap well, or elbow tap plug and lubricate with the supplied or ELASTIMOLD approved lubricant. Assemble the appropriate mating component according to its specific instructions. If using an insulating plug, assemble its provided protective cap as per its instructions.
- Ground the Bushing Extension
Connect a short length of #14 AWG copper wire or equivalent to the grounding eye of the bushing extension. Form a small loop and twist tightly, taking care not to damage the eye. Connect this wire to ground using a suitable connector. Any mating components assembled in Step 4 that require grounding should also be connected to ground in this manner.
