How to Install the LINK-C Deadbreak Cam Link Operable Connector System
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing the LINK-C 600 amp deadbreak cam link operable connector system, including mounting, wiring, and grounding procedures. Ensure all apparatus are de-energized before beginning installation.
Estimated time: 2h
Tools needed:
Hot stick, Suitable tool for 1 inch hex (e.g., socket wrench), Torque wrench, Wire strippers, Welding equipment (if using mounted stand-off plug), 600ATM Operating Tool
Supplies needed:
ELASTIMOLD supplied lubricant, 600 amp elbow, Cable, Stand-off plug (SOP) (if applicable), 3/8-16 x 2 inch studs (if applicable), Hex nuts, Lockwashers, Bushing extender, Alignment bracket, Bushing extender clamp, Elbow clamp, Hex bolts, #14 AWG or #12 AWG solid copper wire, Appropriate grounding connector, Mating 200 amp product (if applicable)
- Prepare for Installation and Install 600 Amp Elbow
DANGER: Ensure all apparatus are de-energized during installation or removal of parts. Inspect all components for damage, proper rating, and compatibility with mating parts. Install the 600 amp elbow onto the cable according to the installation instructions supplied with the elbow, ensuring it will align with the stand-off plug or apparatus bushing.
- Install Mounted Stand-Off Plug (If Applicable)
If using a mounted stand-off plug, weld three 3/8-16 x 2 inch studs to the faceplate according to customer standards. Install three hex nuts onto the studs to support the stand-off plug, ensuring it aligns with the bushing. Install the stand-off plug over the studs, resting on the nuts or spacers. Secure with lockwashers and hex nuts, tightening to 12 foot-lbs torque. Verify the top surfaces of the bushing and stand-off plug are in-line.
- Install Bushing Extender and Elbow
Clean and thoroughly lubricate the apparatus bushing and both interfaces of the 600 amp bushing extender with ELASTIMOLD lubricant. Install the bushing extender onto the apparatus bushing. Insert the 600ATM into the retainer contact, engage the internal hex broach, and thread into the apparatus bushing using a suitable tool on the 1 inch hex portion, torquing to 50-60 ft-lbs. Clean and lubricate the epoxy stand-off plug (if used) and both interfaces of the 600 amp elbow. Install the elbow onto the epoxy stand-off plug. Insert the 600AMT into the retainer contact, engage the internal hex broach, and thread into the epoxy stand-off plug through the compression lug hole, torquing to 50-60 ft-lbs.
- Install Alignment Bracket
Remove the bushing extender clamp and elbow clamp from the alignment bracket. Position the alignment bracket on the bushing extender 2.5 inches (63.5mm) from the grounding eye. Assemble the bushing extender clamp to the alignment bracket with supplied hardware, torquing by alternating sides until clamp tabs are flush and tight. Position the elbow in the alignment bracket so the elbow cuff is evenly lined up with the bushing extender cuff. Assemble the elbow clamp to the alignment bracket, torquing by alternating sides until clamp tabs are flush and tight. Ensure the elbow clamp notch faces the cable entrance.
- Insert the Link Connector
Clean and thoroughly lubricate both 600 ampere interfaces of the Link with ELASTIMOLD lubricant. Align the Link so it is perpendicular to the switch faceplate when inserted into the bushing extender and elbow. Insert the Link, ensuring both lever arms are on the inside of the alignment bracket legs. Engage the pivot pin into the slots in the alignment bracket legs. While pushing inward, move the lever arms downward using a hot stick eye to engage the roller pin and move the Link inward. Continue moving lever arms until perpendicular to the alignment bracket leg.
- Ground the System
Ground the elbow: Feed a #14 AWG or #12 AWG solid copper wire through the grounding eye on the elbow, twist tight, and connect to ground. Clean and lubricate the 200 amp interface on the Link. Ground, then install the desired mating product on the 200 amp interface per its installation instructions. Ground the cable: If concentric neutral cable is used, twist the neutral wires together and connect to ground with an appropriate connector. If 20MA or 21MA grounding devices are used, connect their ground lead to ground with a suitable connector. For three-phase installations, tie all grounds from all three phases to a common ground point.
