How to Install Elastimold Deadbreak Junctions (K675-J2, J3, J4)
This guide provides instructions for safely installing and preparing Elastimold 15/25/35kV, 600/900 Ampere Deadbreak Junctions for operation, including mounting, grounding, and initial setup procedures.
Estimated time: 1h
Tools needed:
Wrench, Wire strippers, Torque wrench, Measuring tape
Supplies needed:
Suitable fasteners (for mounting to surface), 3/8 inch Hex Head Cap Screws, External Tooth Lock Washers (3/8 inch), 3/8 inch Hex Nuts, 1/2 inch Hex Head Cap Screws, 1/2 inch Split Lock Washers, 1/2 inch Hex Nuts, Grounding wire (No. 2 solid to 1/0 stranded), ELASTIMOLD approved lubricants, HV insulated caps
- Review Safety and De-energize Apparatus
Before beginning installation, ensure all apparatus is de-energized. This product should only be installed by competent personnel trained in high voltage electrical equipment safety practices. Failure to follow instructions can result in serious injury or product damage. Do not touch or move energized products.
- Determine Mounting Location and Mark
Determine the desired location for the junction assembly. Using the base plate as a template, place it on the mounting surface and mark all necessary slot locations for fasteners.
- Mount the Universal Brackets
Attach two universal brackets to the flat surface using suitable fasteners. Tighten them securely to prevent movement during operation. Then, attach the remaining two universal brackets to the first pair at the desired angle using the supplied 3/8 inch hex head cap screws, external tooth lock washers, and 3/8 inch hex nuts. Tighten securely.
- Assemble Junction to Base Bracket and Base Plate
Assemble the deadbreak junction to the base bracket assembly and base plate. Use two 1/2 inch hex head cap screws, two 1/2 inch split lock washers, and two 1/2 inch hex nuts, attaching them to the center mounting holes on the bracket assembly. Tighten securely.
- Attach Junction Assembly to Mounted Brackets
Attach the complete deadbreak junction assembly to the previously mounted universal brackets using the supplied 1/2 inch hex head cap screws, 1/2 inch split lock washers, and 1/2 inch hex nuts. Ensure the parking stand is in an upright position and tighten all hardware securely.
- Ground the Junction Assembly
The base bracket assembly and the junction's black conductive jacket must be grounded. Connect a grounding wire (No. 2 solid to 1/0 stranded) to the grounding lug provided on the base bracket. Ensure a secure, low-resistance connection to an earth ground.
- Prepare Operating Interfaces
Remove all protective shipping caps from the operating interfaces. Clean each interface thoroughly and lubricate with an ELASTIMOLD approved lubricant. Do NOT substitute other lubricants, as they may harm the product or its mating parts.
- Install Insulated Caps on Unused Bushings
If not all operating interfaces will be utilized, install appropriate HV insulated caps on the unused bushing(s) before energizing the circuit. Do not use the protective shipping caps for this purpose, as they are not insulated.
