How to Install the K656LR-K-AC03 Shear Bolt Connector

Hexagon socket (AF 3/4” or SW19), Wire brush, Cable accessory installation instructions
Supplies needed:
Center ring, K656LR-K-AC03 shear bolt connector, Cable
- Inspect and Prepare
DANGER: Ensure all apparatus is de-energized before proceeding. Inspect the package contents for completeness and damage. Check all components for proper fit with the cable and mating products. Have all required tools at hand and maintain cleanliness.
- Insert Center Ring
Insert the appropriate center ring into the barrel of the K656LR-K-AC03 connector. Refer to the table in the installation instructions to determine the correct center ring for aluminum or copper conductors of 350/500/750 AWG-KCMIL.
- Prepare Cable
Prepare the cable as specified in the instructions accompanying the applicable cable accessory. Clean the conductor using a wire brush immediately before inserting it into the barrel.
- Initial Bolt Tightening
Torque bolt #1 with slow, steady turns until it makes contact with the conductor. Repeat this process for bolts #2 and #3.
- Shear Bolts
Using the specified hexagon socket, and starting with bolt #1, apply torque alternately to each bolt until the head shears off. It is recommended that the connector barrel be held securely in place during this process. CAUTION: Do not use impact guns. Do not touch or move energized products in the work area.
- Verify Bolt Shearing
If the bolts do not shear off flush with the connector barrel, manual rework is required. Contact Elastimold® technical services for assistance.
