How to Install a Deadbreak Junction (Universal Mount)
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing a two-, three-, or four-point deadbreak junction using the universal mount method, including initial setup and grounding. All apparatus must be de-energized during installation.

Wrench set, Wire strippers, Marking tool
Supplies needed:
Deadbreak Junction, Base Bracket, Base Plate, Universal Brackets (4), Mounting Hardware Prepack, Suitable fasteners, Grounding wire (No. 2 solid to 1/0 stranded), ELASTIMOLD approved lubricant, HV insulated caps (if needed)
- Determine Mounting Location
Select the desired location for the junction assembly. Use the base plate as a template to mark the slot locations on the mounting surface. Ensure the mounting surface is de-energized before proceeding.
- Mount First Pair of Universal Brackets
Secure two universal brackets to the marked slot locations on the flat surface using suitable fasteners. Tighten them securely to prevent movement during operation.
- Assemble Remaining Universal Brackets
Attach the remaining two universal brackets to the two brackets already mounted on the surface at the desired angle. Use the supplied 3/8" hex head cap screws, external tooth lock washers, and 3/8" hex nuts. Tighten securely.
- Assemble Junction to Base Assembly
Connect the deadbreak junction to the base bracket assembly and base plate. Use two 1/2" hex head cap screws, two 1/2" split lock washers, and two 1/2" hex nuts, attaching them to the center mounting holes on the bracket assembly. Tighten securely.
- Secure Junction Assembly to Brackets
Attach the assembled deadbreak junction to the universal brackets using the supplied hardware (1/2" hex head cap screws, 1/2" split lock washers, and 1/2" hex nuts). Ensure the parking stand is in the upright position and tighten all fasteners securely.
- Ground the Junction Assembly
Ground the base bracket assembly and the junction's black conductive jacket. Use the provided grounding lug on the base bracket, which accommodates wire sizes from No. 2 solid to 1/0 stranded. Connect the appropriate grounding wire securely.
- Prepare Operating Interfaces
Remove all protective shipping caps from the operating interfaces. Clean each interface thoroughly and lubricate with an ELASTIMOLD approved lubricant. Do not use substitute lubricants, as they may harm the product. If not all operating interfaces will be used, install appropriate HV insulated caps on the unused bushings before energizing the circuit. Do not use shipping caps for this purpose.
