This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing the Thomas & Betts "FLOOD-SEAL"® FS-95 Force Fit Type Connector Kit, ensuring a proper and sealed connection for various cable sizes. Installation must be performed by trained installers.
Estimated time: 30m
Tools needed:
Cable cleaning supplies, Insulation penciling tool, Cutting tool (for sleeve), Crimping tool (for lugs), Wrench or socket set
Supplies needed:
FLOOD-SEAL® FS-95 Connector Kit, Electrical cable (matching conductor size), Electrical lug, Bus bar, Silicone grease
- Clean the Cable
Clean the cable thoroughly before installing the rocket sleeve to ensure optimal performance and sealing of the connection.
- Pencil the Cable Insulation
Pencil the cable insulation to prepare the cable end for the connector, creating a smooth, tapered profile for proper fitment.
- Select the Correct Cut Ring
Identify the correct conductor size for your cable and match it to the corresponding raised numbers on the cut rings of the rocket sleeve.
- Cut the Rocket Sleeve Tip
Carefully cut off the tip of the rocket sleeve at the selected ring. Ensure the cut leaves the required conductor range visible on the sleeve.
- Lubricate and Partially Install Rocket Sleeve
Lubricate both ends of the rocket sleeve and the prepared cable with silicone grease. Hold the cable at an angle to the sleeve's opening and twist the rocket sleeve while pushing it onto the cable, but do not yet slide it over the lug.
- Compress the Lug onto the Cable
Compress the electrical lug onto the prepared cable end using an appropriate crimping tool, ensuring a secure and reliable electrical and mechanical connection.
- Fully Position the Rocket Sleeve
Slide the rocket sleeve further over the compressed lug and onto the shoulder of the bus bar until the rocket sleeve firmly butts against the rubber of the connector bar, creating a complete seal.
- Bolt the Terminal to the Bus
Securely bolt the terminal (lug) to the bus bar, ensuring all connections are tight and meet specified torque requirements for a safe and effective installation.
