How to Install T&B Liquidtight Connectors (9000 Series)

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the proper installation of T&B liquidtight flexible metallic conduit connectors, including cutting conduit, component assembly, and final tightening for a secure, liquidtight seal.

Estimated time: 15m

Tools needed:

Hacksaw (32 Tooth/ln. no. set), Power band saw (24-32 Tooth/ln. wavy set), Metal jig (optional), Smooth jaw wrench (for PVC coated connectors), Torque wrench, Hand protection, Eye protection

Supplies needed:

Liquidtight flexible metallic conduit, T&B Liquidtight connector (e.g., 9363 series), T&B 140 series locknuts (for knockout applications, if needed), T&B 5260 series sealing gaskets (for knockout applications, if needed), PVC cement (if gouging occurs on PVC coated connectors), Locknut (for 7000 and 9000 series, if not included)

  1. Observe Safety Precautions and Disconnect Power

Read and understand all instructions and safety information before use. Disconnect power before beginning installation to prevent risk of shock. Wear hand and eye protection. Ensure installation is performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes.

  2. Prepare the Flexible Conduit

Cut the liquidtight flexible metallic conduit with a clean, square end. Use a metal jig, a sharp hacksaw with a 32 Tooth/ln. no. set, or a power band saw with a 24-32 Tooth/ln. wavy set (not exceeding 400’/minute). Do not use an abrasive wheel for cutting.

  3. Assemble the Connector Components

For 5000, 7000, 9000 series, and PVC coated 3300 series connectors, slide the gland nut onto the conduit. Next, slide on the nylon sealing ring. Finally, thread in the Safe Edge™ Cone onto the conduit end. For PVC coated connectors, tighten with a smooth jaw wrench; if gouging occurs exposing metal, apply PVC cement.

  4. Secure the Connector to the Box or Enclosure

Insert the connector body into the knockout hole of the box. For knockout applications, use a T&B 140 series locknut and a 5260 series sealing gasket (purchased separately). For 7000 and 9000 series, order the locknut separately. For Chase® connector assemblies, ensure only the Chase® Nipple goes inside the knockout, and the 'Box side' is correctly positioned on the outside of the box. Lock-up by tightening the Chase® Nipple to the body or by turning the body onto the Chase® Nipple.

  5. Tighten the Gland Nut to Specification

    Tighten the gland nut to the connector body using a torque wrench according to the specified torque values. For a 3/8" fitting, apply 200 lb.-in.; 1/2" fitting, 300 lb.-in.; 3/4" fitting, 500 lb.-in.; 1" fitting, 700 lb.-in.; 1 1/4" fitting, 1000 lb.-in.; 1 1/2" fitting, 1200 lb.-in.; and 2" to 4" fittings, 1600 lb.-in. Ensure a secure, liquidtight seal.
