How to Install the 600/900 Series Deadbreak Connecting Plug
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the safe installation and connection of the 600/900 series deadbreak connecting plug, an accessory for power distribution systems, by mating it with compatible devices.
Estimated time: 20m
Tools needed:
3/8 inch hex bit socket, Torque wrench
Supplies needed:
Connecting Plug, Lubricant (DO NOT SUBSTITUTE), No. 14 AWG (2.5mm) copper wire or equivalent
- De-energize and Inspect Apparatus
Ensure all apparatus is de-energized during installation or removal of parts. Do not touch or move energized products. Inspect all parts for damage, correct rating, and compatibility with mating parts before proceeding. Failure to follow these instructions will result in serious or fatal injury.
- Install Stud into Mating Plug Device
If the mating plug device is not equipped with a stud, hand tighten the stud into the mating plug device. Thread the stud until the start of the flats are below the contact surface.
- Clean and Lubricate Connecting Plug and Mating Part
Clean both the connecting plug and its mating part as indicated in the diagram. Lubricate both parts and the stud with the supplied lubricant. DO NOT SUBSTITUTE other lubricants, as they may be harmful to the products. Ensure all surfaces remain clean.
- Connect and Torque the Connecting Plug
Push the connecting plug into the elbow, bushing extender, vault stretcher, or elbow end module. Engage the threads, holding the contact of the connecting plug against the contact surface of the mating part. Use a 600ATM or a 3/8 inch hex bit socket and a torque wrench to tighten, exerting 50 to 60 foot-pounds (68 to 81 newton-meters) of torque.
- Ground the Connecting Plug
If applicable, insert one end of a No. 14 AWG (2.5mm) copper wire or equivalent through the grounding eye on the connecting plug. Twist the wire tightly, taking care not to damage the eye. Connect the other end of the wire to ground.
