This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing and wiring the 60975 reducing splicer for aluminum and copper cables.
Estimated time: 45m
Tools needed:
Screwdriver, Wire strippers, Multimeter
Supplies needed:
Mounting screws, Terminal connectors, ALUMA-SHIELD® Aluminum Joint Compound
- Prepare the cable
Strip the insulation from the cable to the length specified in Table 1, ensuring not to nick the cable strands.
- Apply joint compound
Smear a thin layer of ALUMA-SHIELD® Aluminum Joint Compound on the cable. Clean the cable with a wire brush or emery cloth to remove any surface oxide.
- Insert the cable into the connector
Remove protective caps from the splice barrel and insert the cable into the connector until it stops, ensuring the insertion length matches the stripped length of the cable.
- Crimp the connector
Insert the connector into the appropriate die and compress it according to the specifications in Table 1, starting near the center and working towards the end.
- Clean up the connection
After crimping, remove any sharp edges, flashes, or burrs from the connection to ensure safety and reliability.
- Insulate the connection
Insulate the connection using the methods specified in Table 1, ensuring a secure and safe installation.
