Overview

The ABB Aluminum Reducing Splice Connector, SKU 60910, is engineered for secure and reliable transitions between copper and aluminum conductors. Manufactured from high-conductivity aluminum tubing, this connector is electro-tin plated to ensure low contact resistance and provide excellent corrosion resistance. It is specifically designed to join copper wire sizes up to 8 AWG with aluminum wire sizes up to 6 AWG. The precise die code 29 ensures accurate crimping for optimal electrical and mechanical performance. This connector is UL Listed for wire connectors (UL486A/B), rated for 90°C temperatures, and suitable for up to 600V (2000V max. per UL486B). The gray color code aids in easy identification during installation. Ideal for industrial, commercial, and residential electrical installations where reliable splicing of dissimilar conductor types is critical. Trust ABB Installation Products for durable and efficient electrical connection solutions. The center stop feature on similar NSi Industries ASC-T series connectors (which share manufacturing principles) assures proper cable installation, a benefit to consider for robust connections. This connector's construction from 6061T-6 aluminum alloy, as seen in comparable NSi Industries SR series, guarantees strength and conductivity. Its dual-rated capability for both copper and aluminum conductors, a common feature in high-quality mechanical connectors, minimizes inventory needs and simplifies project management. The tin plating, a standard for aluminum connectors, prevents oxidation and maintains low resistance over time, crucial for long-term system integrity. The specific die code 29 is critical for ensuring the correct compression is applied, which is vital for the longevity and safety of the electrical connection. This connector is a key component for electricians and contractors requiring dependable splices in diverse electrical infrastructure projects.

How to Install the 60910 Two-Way Reducing Splicer

Instructions for installing and connecting the 60910 two-way reducing splicer using aluminum or copper cables.

Estimated time: 30m

Tools needed:

Wire strippers, Wire brush or emery cloth, Crimping tool (specified in Table 1), Insulating tools (specified in Table 1)

Supplies needed:

ALUMA-SHIELD® Aluminum Joint Compound (if not pre-installed), Shrink tubing or adhesive pad (for insulation)

  1. Prepare the Cable

Strip the insulation from the cable to the length specified in Table 1. Be careful not to nick the cable strands. Smear a thin layer of ALUMA-SHIELD® Aluminum Joint Compound on the cable. Use a wire brush or emery cloth to clean the cable through the compound to remove surface oxide.

  2. Insert Cable into Splicer

WARNING: Do not remove compound from the splice barrel. Remove the protective caps from the ends of the splice barrel. Insert the prepared cable into the connector until it stops. The insertion length should approximate the stripped length of the cable.

  3. Crimp the Connection

CAUTION: Using improper installing dies may result in a malfunctioning connection. Select the correct installing die and the required number of compressions as specified in Table 1. Insert the connector into the die and compress. Start crimping near the center of the connector and work towards the end. Repeat compressions as required.

  4. Finish and Insulate

After crimping, remove any sharp edges, flashes, or burrs from the connection. Insulate the connection using the methods specified in Table 1, such as shrink tubing or an adhesive pad.
